I think the thread on how to do this has been erased. I'm not too familiar with the procedure.
What exactly does it consist of (I'm guessing it's applying some form of sealer to the bolts) and does anyone have a how-to on how to do it ?

My roof rack has to come off for paint, may as well do it well and do it only once.

I'm not sure what others have used but I did mine wrong so I have to re-do it. I'm going to have to remove it which really sucks because I had to use nuts because some of the inserts either came loose or fell out completely. This means that this is now a two man job. Anyhoo, I intend to use silicon sealant and a lot of it! If anyone has any other suggestions, please let them be known.

When I did mine, some of the sealant recommendations from here were to use windshield urethane in a caulking gun. It is black greasy crap to apply. I didn't do anything fancy, just liberally applied to cover the rivnut flange and a dollup on top of the threads. I wasn't aware of any leaks at the time, so I don't know well it worked, but it looked good to me.
I had no intentions of doing this, but when swapping roofracks a rivnut spun, so while I was into it I did the front and side channels and found one more loose rivnut.
I ended up grinding the bolt heads off and used a slightly larger non-metric rivnut so the crusty hole could be enlarged a bit. The rivnuts from GM were too expensive, I bought aluminum (1/2" ?) from a nut and bolt store.
