What makes your dad think the bottom end is going out are you getting knock?Noises?Power Loss?Oil issues?
The thing with our LT1s are that some people tend to think most problems are internal mechanical issues when really they are just electronic component issues!
There was a post along time ago on the Z28 forums where some guy pulled his good running daily driven LT1 apart at 145,000 miles and surpisingly all the internals ie pistons, rods crank etc surfaces were just as smooth and in good condition as they were coming out of the assembly plant.
I had a knock on my '94 LT1 wagon. I pulled it apart and one of the mains was wiped out, rotated about 30 degrees, and the crank shaft was cracked right across that journal.
I measured the block at that main cap, and it was good. I ended up putting a new crank, main, and rod bearings in and buttoned it back up. I didn't even remove any of the pistons or the intake manifold, etc. Car went another 150,000 miles and was still running perfectly when I sold it (had 275,000 miles on it at the time).
Bottom line: If it's a daily driver, I'd recommend just fixing what's broke. These engines really don't "wear out" if they are maintained even moderately well.
It just occurred to me that the wood section doesn't have a single sticky. I would like this compilation thread to be one... but first we need contributions.

I do have a set of 9C1 springs about, but somewhere in my distant past I heard of folks putting SS springs in too.
Would the SS springs drop the ride height...
The familar problem, with some new details:
The front lower door speakers were replaced a year or two ago with two nice NOS ones and they made a great difference. Two decades of hot, cold, and humidity aren't very good compared to dry, cool-stored originals. If I wanted...
