What are you guys using for your INS-LOC RR W/OPG CVR PNL UPR now? If there's no as-equal from another model (saw a reference to a similar looking "clip with bushing" for Corvette once), then I'll start trying rubber grommets.

Point taken and rather certain you know this, but the only others will be fellow Fleetwooders frequenting this section of the forum. They're the little white nylon grommets stuck in the holes to buffer metal-metal contact of the fender skirt tabs with the corresponding locators in the 1/4 pnl. I'm going to hazard it stands for INSert-LOCator ReaR Wheel/OPeninG CoVeR PaNeL UPpeR.

I had a bag of a dozen but they apparently keep cracking out and I'm officially run out. I have to think a regular black rubber grommet can slip in there and last at least as long as the plastic ones have been. Maybe even more snug fit and quieter too.

The original part was installed like a pop rivet. The center can be pushed out from the front/out side, and the fastener removed from the body panel. There are a couple of FWs in the yards locally, but the part is not a special trip value. I can check to see if I have any in my parts stash. I checked one of the clips, and the white fastener part is pretty much trapped in the black trim clip. Due to the brittle nature of the trim clip, it should not be removed to avoid breaking the trim clip. I may have the trim clip(s) you need. What number is/are the clip(s) you need?

'Preshiate it Fred, but any oem that are still on a car will be 20 years old now just as those that are crumbling apart on mine. If I were to use any old ones, then I'd be tempted to glue them in the retainer holes to keep them from cracking apart and falling out. And that's certainly not a preferred longterm approach. If there isn't any NOS remaining that've been protected from UV and the elements then I'll start trying grommets out of my box assortment.

I was more checking if guys have come up with a hack re-purposing something from a different application. And it doesn't seem like enough demand to ever start aftermarket as the case with window roller guides becoming abundant again.

Hey Bob, I think I know the part you are looking for. It's sort of like a wall anchor. Correct? I looked here, The Cliphouse Nationwide but didn't strike gold. You may find something though. These people have a lot of things and it might also help someone else. Frustrating being a devotee.

You could just bolt the clip to the body. The reason they used the fastener they did was to reduce the parts count, and allow it to be attached by the worker from one side. It also facilitated putting them on in areas where there was no access from the back side. The hole is large, so some sort of filler would help. The clips is also mounted flush to the body panel, making a grommet an issue with the flush attachment.

O. K. All this talk I hope y'all are happy with yourselves. My LAST ONE just now came apart while removing the skirt to take some pics!!! hahaha And remember, I had all 4 on just 3 months ago. And 2 of those were my last brand new stash! In nearly every other case they just disintegrate on the road and I never even see the pieces, just a bare hole left over: [4 pics below, recent PB hosting changes notwithstanding]

It had almost sounded like you described the pushpins holding bumper fascias on, but wasn't sure.

More good points. I had thought of using those toy acorn speednuts, even with wings coming in from the backside. But. you see from the pics the weak link is the contact point chafing and stressed at the body metal, which makes anchoring the back part rather moot. They likely learned by now at Cady central to use a little more weather resistant plastic on applications so close to the ground. If I do a correct ID rubber grommet that protrudes less than that head I should be good.

Those pics would have helped in the beginning. I was considering the wrong part. Those look a lot like the parts that hold the rear interior C pillar trim to the metal in the Caprice sedan. The top is a bit bigger, but could be cut down. the pin looks to be about the same size. I will check my stash, and see if I have a couple for pics.

Check. I honestly hadn't expected much airplay outside of the Cady forum - where this minutia is more familiar. Thanks checking for potential alternates. I recalled months ago deep cleaning my son's Altima there are plastic pushballs with similar sockets holding in the rear deck that I can hunt details on.

Just received.

They fit perfectly. The I.D. is perhaps a hair tighter, and coupled with the longer shaft catches the knurled stud just a touch firmer. The spread keepers hold to the sheetmetal well to resist pulling out. The foam 'sealers' are a nice added touch, though probably erode quickly from exposure. Everything about construction is more stout and meatier.

Fellow Fleetwooders, we have an upgrade replacement! And a Vette part no less.

Well they DO appear to weigh 1/30oz. more apiece. So off the line may suffer, but with 'sealer delete' and 'shaved tail' mods I bet you'll be right back to bumping the speed limiter.... ;)

Just checking for surviving FWBers

One year later and all 4 grommets are still in and doing fine. Hard to believe I've had this '96 two years already. I spied a code for O2 signal something so just ordered all 4 new ones.



Question: Anyone had luck running CTS 18 x 8 1/2? The 15 x 7 are abysmal on a good day, and now they're all bald. And inspection/plates are this month!
