I'm thinking of selling my Caprice because its to nice to let my 2 Labs in the back seat and i miss having a truck.......My dogs go every where with me and i do have a Tahoe that they ride in now...

I bought this 96 Caprice with a hurt lt1 motor.....I found a good short block and put all new bearings etc new cam bearings and honed the cylinders and new rings etc etc new ac compressor etc .....i left it all stock but it did have a Raiss air intake and a set of Comp cams roller rockers and LS beehive valve springs already..........car runs and drivers excellent and i'm in love......Car is super clean and straight and near mint...paint is super nice but the tops of both bumper covers need paint.......105,xxx miles and motor has about 600 miles......from Fl. so theres no surface rust underneath...no bubbles....about a $900 stereo system..

About 3 weeks after i bought it i found this link to my Caprice.....you can click on stuff at the top of the link.....

Tim,

When Bob owned the car it was the envy of many of us. He did it up so professionally it was something to behold. If I had not just bought my 7th SS, I would be all over it. I cannot tell you what price to put on it, but everything you have been through, I would say keep it to take your wife for a ride on your victory day. You know what I mean. Best of luck whatever you do, and hope to see you again soon in my travels to Michigan. Good luck man, you deserve it. I say "keep it". My .02 worth.

Price

As Charlie wrote, Bob loved the car and did a lot of tasteful modifications to it. (And did them right).

On the plus side its a rare color. However at the end of the day prices for these cars have tanked. Interest in them has waned, and to many its just an old Caprice.

Personally I think its a $3000 to $4K car. (Take a look at what true SS's are selling for)...add to that its now winter (bad time to sell a hobby car in the rust belt).

If it's worth more to you...get some seat covers and drive/enjoy it. Otherwise post a price and sell it on to someone who wants it.

In my humble opinion, the radio will not add $900 dollars worth of value to the car, in fact its installation is not in keeping with the clean work that Bob did on the car. If its special to you...pull it and keep it.

Good luck with the sale.

Hi,
That car is well known around these parts...I found the thread with all the dirty details, but not trying to ruin it for you, if you put up a for sale ad in that section.

We know what Bob says he sold it for so i think that is what it's worth.

Folks,
I have met Tim in person, and everything he does is the same as Bob did----First class. There are not many of us that could go though what Tim has been dealt the past few years, and yet he trudges on as a gentleman with a heart of gold towards everyone. As a site for the SS's, do not drive the price of our cars down, when it should be totally the opposite. We need to keep them alive and desirable. If there are no kind words to say, keep the thoughts to yourselves. Please.
I for one, will probably be stuck with the contents of my stable because I will not part a car to a low-baller. Just my thoughts. If you don't like the thought, get a beer and enjoy the taste. Just sayin'.

You asked for opinions on value

And then don't seem to appreciate the feedback received. Personally if I owned that car and someone offered me 6K for it...it would be gone with a full tank of fuel.

If its worth more to you then what people here suggest...keep it and enjoy it. No harm, no foul...Its a nice car with a lot of nice details...but as I originally wrote, to the masses its just an old Caprice.

If you sell it I hope it goes to a good home...if you keep it I hope it brings you and your dogs lots of pleasure.

A lot of us have been thru a lot these last few years. The car is worth what it's worth, regardless. 6K was a top shelf offer.

We know you have a very nice car there. It's one I've never seen in person, but can appreciate the work, time, effort and Money put into this car and what was required to do those mods and more importantly do them correctly. You can tell this from his website as well as what others have shared about the car.

I too have just an "old Caprice" but can appreciate a car like this even more since its somewhat unique, has been done correctly and I have done similar mods too. In the end, its hard for me to even put a price on a nice car like you have there cause I keep looking at my caprice from a "Family Member" perspective. Sure, its just a chunk of machinery but I get attached to my cars....which is why I probably never sell them often. :(

Would I sell my car for 6K?....Nope. But let me clarify that by saying I've got a lot of personal attachment to the car that you may not with yours. If your original asking was $7K and you had 2 offers for 6K, then I would haggle with both a little but understand that you very seldom get your asking price, most people want to feel like they at least negotiated a better deal. Did you counter offer either of them? You may be able to get $6500 and be happy with that. If they want it bad enough, they wont lose a $6000 car over a few hundred unless they weren't really serious.

I understand the whole "Caprice" thing and having one modded very similar to his just puts me on the defensive a little I guess. :) We all like to "think" our babies are worth more than they are when we have a personal attachment and literally Blood, Sweat and Tears melted into the metal. :p

The whole IMPALA SS vs. Caprice thing is great but to me, once the Impala cars have been modded from stock or have over 100K on them, I no longer see where the big deal is that its an Impala SS. To me and at this point, its just a fancy Caprice. Just another way of looking at it I guess.

To a collector who this may matter most, other things like mileage, mods and condition may reduce the cost of the Impala just as much as if it was a very Fine Caprice. I've also seen a few nice Caprices that are worth more than a ratty old Impala that was beat hard or not modded correctly.

Again, just a different way to look at value. I can appreciate both cars and understand that the Impala (to me) is a dressed up Caprice that cost more than the Caprice on the Showroom floor. My initial investment back it 96/97 was waaaaay less than the Impala would have cost me. Being a original Black car I could mod it as the years went on and add all the Impala parts I wanted. Sorry, got on a little rant there....... ;)
