2015 Southern Super Heavy Shootout

SSHS15 will be held at Atlanta Dragway on Saturday, November 14th, 2015. It is located in Commerce, GA, about an hour north of downtown Atlanta on I-85.

This premier event, will settle on the drag strip which two ton Mopar, GM, or Ford heavyweight has what it takes to win two bracket racing ET classes, Pro Street, 12.00 Index class, and the Big Dog all-out heads up class.

This event will match some of the fastest G8's, Chargers, 300Cs, Impalas, Caprices, Mark VII’s, Mark VIII’s, Marauders, Crown Vics and CTS-Vs on the planet, along with any other heavyweight domestic car or truck weighing in at 4000 pounds or more with driver. That would also make some late model heavyweight pony cars like the Camaro SS, Challenger R/T, and the Mustang GT 500 eligible to compete if you meet the 4000 pound with driver weight requirements.

All signed up! Thanks for the reminder Don.....
What is the host hotel for this event. Will be signing up shortly. Still working on the car.
The best hotel is the cheapest... after all, you only sleep there, you don't race there ;)

I dunno, I'd recommend at least maybe the second-to-cheapest hotel. I know there's at least one in Commerce that I would rather sleep in the car then stay at again.

Anyone know what the reasonable statutes of limitations is for destroyed parking lots? Hampton Inn, anyone??? cwm2
I will be there, but will probably be behind a camera. I think SSHS will be the end of my photo season tho, so that's nice.

Anyone want to talk Tiff into dusting off the race car and giving it a go??
The Magnusen Inn FTW! I think that place was by far the worst hotel but as always...we had fun.

Might be the only one we've driven out the management to go AWOL before midnight. Awesome.
Norm,

I made reservations at the Days Inn, just south of the interstate and from the Satellite picture it has a big area out back for trailers. It's next to the Scottish Inn.
I think the MISSL guys are at the Comfort Suites. Staggering distance to Sonic and the Fairfield is just down the way a bit. If the lot is still empty, there is a LOT of trailer parking at the Fairfield. We've stayed at both over the years, both just fine.
Only 2 weeks away and we only have 9 posts on here?!

Needs to be three pages deep by now.
No time to post, I only have two weeks left to get the car ready.

Track is ready for us.
Shirts are on order
Trophies are on order

So what are gonna bring Blake?
Gonna be a contender this year?
I saw a Brown 9C1 roll off a couple of 11.xx passes
on motor at Cecil last week, so he should be deep in the 10s
on the go juice!

Nab
I'm going to have to mount my Go Pro on the bumper when I line up against that old Brown 9C1 in the 11.0 Index.
One of these years I will make this race..
Have to get back to Reffing soccer.
Demand for Refs seems to have increased.
Especially since upgrading my ranking.

Year end tournaments add to the demand.

Otherwise it was a good year.
Hope 2016 is even more fun.

Yes, Dan, you will have fun throwing a 200 shot on your SuperStocker at SSHS.
With an antiroll bar, you may pull a wheelie like Don Prudhomme!
What are you going to refresh during the off-season?

Upgrade fuel system, weight to get down to 4000lb.
Freshen the engine and fix little things.
More for reliability yet seeking the next 20 hp.
Freshen the trans which is going on 5 years.

Want to the car to launch harder.
Different rear tires, converter, suspension upgrades.

Would like to run high 12s (1/4mile) in the heat.
8 ohs in the 1/8th mile.

I want Corbitts National Record he set when he bought Scotts (TarHeals) Impala.

Convert to S10 manual steering box and delete all accessories
(even alternator if you wanna charge between rounds)
OR get low mount alternator bracket.
Remove AIR bags, and ABS module under the hood.
Get frame mounted rear anti-roll bar and you'll pull the front tires.
Use TH350 trans with 4.56 gears and ATI 4500 stall converter if you wanna beat Corbitt.

Increase compression to 12:1 by cutting block and heads.
Use 100 LL Airplane gas.

Class rules require all accessories working.
4L60E working perfectly and sticking with it.
May upgrade to a Yank 4400PT.
Have 4.56's already but moving up to a 29 Inch tall Hoosier Radial.

I can actually increase compression a little.
Going to GM Head Gaskets.
Airbags are going to stay. Removing ABS is too much work.
Freshening the Engine will get back about 10hp.
As for fuel, like C10 VP or Sunoco 260 fuel the best.

Don't discount a TH350 with less parasitic drag than 4L60 and weighs less.
It's a bolt in with same driveshaft if you use long tail shaft version.
Manual shift it and with less first gear, won't ever spin 29" Hoosiers.
Both of these factors will make your car more consistent, quicker and reliable.
Heck, just getting rid of the lock-up clutch is good for half a tenth.

As for ABS delete- easy to do with motor out.
Double flare union to splice 1/4" lines to the rear.
and Double Flare 3/16" T for front brake lines.

Fresh motor with .003 clearance on rod bearings and for quicker acceleration.
Honing and re-ring cylinders another thou will loosen up the bottom end as well.
I dont' think GM sells the thin Impala head gaskets anymore.
Get the 5898 Victor Reinz .026 thick from Napa or Rock Auto.

Air plane gas is 100 octane and only $4.50 a gallon where race gas is twice as costly.
