I got my SS spring for my caprice and i am ready to install them. During the install i am also doing the whole front end new balljoint bushings and stuff from PST. I am a little confused on if i will need a spring compressor. Some peopel say yes some said no, from wat i coudl find. Seems might be difference with the height of spring, the ss dont need it but 9c1 do. Any help be apriciated. I also have another brand new set of spring for sale in the box 185 for the set

I would recommend a spring compressor to remove your old 9c1 springs. I myself did not use a spring compressor when I installed SS springs on my Roadmaster.

You shouldn't need to compress the spring to remove it, but I highley recommend a comressor to install the front springs. You can get severley hurt with those springs. A compressor will just make everything go smoother and safer.

spring compressor is a must for re-install of any spring. I personally dont use one to take the old springs out, just back off the castle nut off the ball joint so it wont come off all the way and that will stop it from flying out. put a jack under the LCA jack it up 1/2" remove the castle nut, and slowly let the jack down.

Well, not "any" spring

My (slightly) cut Global Wests in front don't need a compressor. Just put the bottom of the spring into the control arm pocket and bolt it all together :D . They are short enough and stiff enough that they will go into the arm with almost no compression of the spring necessary!

That said, for the springs mentioned I WOULD recommend using a spring compressor.
