Brought this home tonight. It’s a Lt1 out of a 1996 9C1 that was totaled with 20k on it is what I was told. Still has the stickers on the back of the head and block. The gentleman I bought it off of is a cop (30 years) and it was his car that was totaled. I only paid $250 for it so not a big loss. It’s been under a tarp in his shed since he bought the car back from the local government auction. So I’ll start the tear down tomorrow and hopefully have it to the machine shop next week for cleaning, clearance, boring, and line honing.
I’ll try to give updates on progress weekly once it’s out of the shop.

Would be interesting to read the serial number off the block as , and I might be wrong, that photo suggests that is not a 96.
Not that it matters on a full build
deingy , would you trade your engine for a wild card like that ??
If a person is hung up on stock, I would be more concerned with keeping the "numbers" block in a stock Impala.

I would think there are SS guys that would trade you their good high mileage motor + some healthy boot for yours and be happy with that low mileage stock motor.
I wouldn’t trade/sell. This engine hasn’t been ran in god knows how long. The injectors smelled like shellac.

I took some pictures of what I found in the head, back drivers side block, and flat pad at the front passenger side block.
Would you be able to decode them? I’m curious myself.

If not me someone here will be able.
What tweaked my interest
was the 94-95 top resonator and the "94" on the water pump.
Does it have a crank sensor sticking out of the pass side of the front cover ?
first pic 94-95 B body
second pic 96

Well crap! It’s the top one. So it’s a 94-95 then. I know it’s not that big of a deal since I’m only saving the block. Just pisses me off being lied to.
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.👍

'10168588' is a L99 4.3L V8 block.
'10208890' '12529742' '12554291' are L99 4.3L V8 heads.

Don't know where the casting numbers are located, but if you find any of those numbers ...

Here's hoping it is an LT1 and not an L99.

I don't know the percentage of 9C1s that were L99 .
Not a ton but they exist
It’s definitely a Lt1. Block numbers confirmed that. Plus the big old 327 on the side.

Here’s a casting number on the passenger side head.
Thanks for the info on the other casting numbers.

Other than say gaskets and seals, (due to age) why would a 20K mile engine need to be rebuilt? But if I went through the trouble to rebuild an engine for my LT-1 cars, I would make a 383 out of it! (and paint it Chevy orange just to be obstinate).

It was sitting in a shed for a LONG time. No 383 for me. 👍
