There are 6 seal/gasket kits listed for the gear:

1. Group 6.840 seal kit, steering gear adjuster plug

7832730

2. Group 6.825 seal kit, steering gear end plug

7817485

3. Group 6.809 gasket kit, steering gear housing cover

7817486

4. Group 6.855 seal kit, steering gear pitman shaft

26057638

5. Group 6.579 seal kit, steering gear rack

7817487

6. Group 6.552 seal kit, steering gear valve

5687182

Sealant 12345493, listed under Kit #3

Other mechanical kits for the steering gear--some variance by year and application--I've provided the parts group only:

6.550 valve kit, steering gear check valve

6.586 rack kit

6.803 housing kit

6.807 cover kit

6.830 plug kit

6.844 ball kit, recirculating

6.850 shaft kit, pitman

Good luck doing this yourself!

Wayne, thats all well and good, but as I've written before, I'm not inclined to trust my Impala to an unknown steering gear that's now 25 years old. Its just a fact that the hydraulic system does periodically require maintenance, and I'm going to spend money, when I have to, in a way that I know, without a doubt, that the steering is good-to-go. To put a used gear with unknown history on my car is not part of that plan.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, here's some of my thoughts on this subject:
