I did a write up on Facebook of my stereo install project here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10217836433322469&type=1&l=ae8e05421c
The stock stereo in a 96 Roadmaster is actually not horrible, owing mostly to the 6.5 inch component speakers. But I've been aching to do an upgrade since I bought the car in 2013 and finally got around to it this summer/fall.
This is not a real intense system by the standards of many here, but it works for me. It is completely invisible with a stock head unit, amp in the spare tire well and sub third seat footwell. The write up does go into a lot of detail for the benefit of anyone looking to do their own install. Some of the info is wagon or Buick specific, of course, but much is more general for B-bodies.
