Cmon boys...whatcha got and how do you like em?

My car is bagged and i tend to drive it VERY VERY low...so i want a really stiff shock so the cornering is reasonable and i dont bottom out.

As far as "off the shelf", the QA1s (on a reasonably stiff setting, say 8 or 9 out of 12) are the stiffest. That said, you may want to goto a different QA1 shock than the "standard" ones used on the B-body because your range of operation (piston travel length and position) is different than stock. Only downside is this may limit how far UP you can take the car with bags.

And the "different" shocks is especially gonna apply in front if you have done the common bagged car mod of moving the shocks outside of the control arms.

I'd talk to QA1 directly on this one.

Cant go with adjustables...Bagged cars tend to go through shocks at at a rate of about one set every year. The constant travel from all the way up to all the way down tends to do a number on a shock. thus I need the stiffest non adjustable fancy pants shock. Were talking monroe and bilstein..ok maybe not even bilstein...maybe i shouldve asked what the stiffest monroe is.

Bagged cars tend to go through shocks at at a rate of about one set every year.
The QA1s are user rebuildable. Don't know what the parts cost, but you can e-mail them.

Firmest Monroe that you'll be able to find as a direct fit for a stocker is the monroe severe service. The rears are especially firm, though I don't know if they would work with your app.

You should probably look at the Monroe gas magnum truck shocks. Go to the Monroe website and download their appplication info PDFs to figure out which is the best for you.

jay..i priced those out today..theyre a lil pricey for what they are. the straight monroe replacement caprice ones are only 18$ CDn where as my cost on the HD's is 50$. Im more concerened with ruining a 50$ shock in 6 months than an 18$ one but hey..whats $$$ eh

When I had mine rebuilt under warranty, they sent me the pricing sheet delineating every part in need of replacement on each individual shock (all 4 of them blew...yay cold air, and yay a wicked expensive high quality product that can't survive in it). Lets just say I could have bought new ones for less money.

I have the HAL/QA1 shocks on my bagged wagon. Blown shocks aren't caused by having bags, they're caused by user carelessness. If you don't use your shocks as travel limiters - use bumpstops instead - and bang into their limits each and every time you hop or drop you car they won't blow out. This goes for any type of shock.

Where'd you find the Monroe Severe Service Shocks up here? I've been looking for a month now & can't anyone who handles them.

I went with the Monroe Reflex truck shocks (I think they fit the early 90's 2wd Chevy trucks) and HOLY HELL those are some stiff shocks on a stock ride. I've been thinkin of replacing them with some KYB's or somethin alittle smoother, but I got other things to worry about on the car.

Out here in Bc and AB, Lordco has the Monroe Severe Service Shocks in BC and I went into Bumper to Bumper to get a price in Edmonton.

You don't need full height stock bumpstops. Just something that so when you drop or raise it all the way you aren't using your shocks as your travel limiters. It'll keep you from blowing shocks left and right, and it'll only take away a minimum amout of maximum lift.
