Hi! I have a 1991 Caprice Classic with the BOSE Delco Silver series radio/cassette player. Whenever I turn my radio on, I get a high pitched noise from the speakers. :frown2: It does not fluctuate with the engine noise, and, from what little research I have done, it seems that the capacitor inside the stock amp may be fried? Or worn out from age? If someone could confirm this, I would appreciate it, as well as if anyone knows how I can fix it, or of a place that could fix it for me? Thanks in advance! :grin2:

Worth a try. Probably an electrolytic as they leak over time. Should be easy to spot. Mine crapped out and is sitting on a shelf. Forget if it was the same issue.

Swapped in a Jensen amp, but it never worked right. Couldn't get rid of the whine. Best thing I did was to eliminate it all together and just install a later model factory CD player plus added tweeters in the dash pad. Sounds way better than the bose ever did.

Any reply from me more than 5 words is at risk of exceeding my knowledge of stereos, - but big culprits for whines (and pops) for me have always been lost grounds, ground loops and impedance mismatch.

Do you know if the ground would be a constant whine or sporadic? and i think i may have even less knowledge than you about stereos... what is "impedance mismatch"?

I will have to pull it and check it out. I'm going to put a new antenna motor in it here soon since the antenna won't go up and down and I was able to figure out that specific issue. I will let you know what I find. Thanks!

Gave up on my antenna, fix twiced. Now it's just in the up position.

Looks like we have identical cars from the pic lol. Before I added the wheels. Mine to came from a grandpa. I was surprised at all the options he had. Curious, does yours by any chance have the bigger 8.5 inch rear with a 3.08 posi? Yet only have the FE1 suspension.

Umm... how would I figure that out? I really haven't done much looking into specs on the car other than if a problem occurs, I focus on that area...

All the options will be on the label on the trunk lid. A posi would have a G80 in the list. Same for the suspension, you'd see an FE something.
