well we got around to picking her up, and i must say its a blast!

big thanks to dan and the boys at clear image automotive. the kit works great and was a blast to drive home. drove the car 3 hours straight back to surrey, bc from kent wa. toyed with a 2010 camaro ss in a game of cat and mouse, he wasnt able to lose me... im sure dan will chime in with some stories himself.

at 5psi the kit is responsive and performs great, cant be happier... posted is a you tube link to the car doing a few runs in front of our shop.

future plans are to pull the tired motor/trans for a rebuilt forged 355 and crank the boost up to 10-12 psi.

Thanks for the review. I'm glad you are happy with the kit. I agree, the car really is a lot of fun to drive. Out of the throttle it is so mild mannered you have no idea anything has even been done to it. Step on the gas and it feels like the car transforms into something else. :)

To answer the question about this being the test car, yes, this was the test car. I don't understand you comment about rust. What does rust under the car have to do with anything? Our turbo kit, tubing, etc looks spotless in the video.

As for chiming in with some stories. I don't endorse street racing and I'm not one to post "kill stories". Heck, i drive an old truck most days. But, last week while driving this Caprice around to make sure it was ready for pick-up, i did have an encounter with a new Mustang GT. The guy was playing around on his own and pulled up behind me. I gave it a little gas on the green light and the Mustang pulled out and around next to me. Then started pulling ahead, backing off, then pulling ahead. By the time he had fulled a car length in front we were already going 40. We entered a tunnel and i mashed the throttle. Guy never knew what happened. at 80 I was several car lengths ahead of him. Hit the brake and exited the tunnel at 40. He never even turned his head at the next light. LOL

It would be nice to see what that car can do with 10-12 PSI, tires that don't spin, a tranny that doesn't slip and a fresh engine.

In a nutshell, I had a great time driving the Caprice. It motivated me to get my Impala back on the road. However, have the large primary "Pro Series" headers to finish as well as the twin turbo kit first.

More coming from Clear Image Automotive. :)

ok if the car was rusted out?

it has to do with the fact that if any more money would be thrown at a car with that much rust underneath it then why not pick a more decent canidate to continue further modding.

DAN you must not know what its like to pull off a set of rear UPPER control arms on the floor with no lift when they are rusted to crap. unless you are CIA and have every tool needed rust can get in the way of many thing especailly on a build with BOOST.

if the car was just going to stay with the turbo kit then i would say yeah what does it matter but to get deeper into a car with rust like that i guess its just my opinion and personal knowledge from disassebling over 200 b-bodys that rust on a PROJECT CAR will get you nowwhere fast, or it will at least steal all of the time you could have spent modding the car in trying to pull off all the crapped out no good RUSTED PARTS.

just food for thought lol ;)

if not then invest in a tetanus shot you might catch something.

I think the car is perfect!! LOL thats hilarious. My only question is to Dan: Ive been eyballing the kit since you introduced the test car a while back, How will this car perform in weather conditions such as daily rain or other driving? Im a little shy about the filter being in that spot.

its just minor surface rust on the floor pan....like really there is nothing rotting thru, ive seen a lot worse b bodies out there....its not like bolts are snapping off while removing them...

and what does the condition of the car have to do with the kit anyways??? its in, it performs it feels great...

as far as daily driving, its great when i dont mash on it. we drove it home on sunday and weather was great so no traction issues...today and yesterday it rained, normal driving no problems, lay into it and hit full boost the tires break loose, even while rolling the turbo spools up and the car goes sideways....like any car with torque, as long as you know how to drive it in the rain its all good...

the filter stays dry believe it or not, after driving it to the shop in the rain we put it on the hoist to look it over. k&n also offers a off road "sock" that goes on the filter to keep further rain and debris off of it...

Hmmm? I understand what you mean by working on rusty cars and the frustration of having bolts break, etc, etc. And I have done my fair share of working on cars using hand tools and jack stands. I swapped engines in my 89 Toyota Supra and 95 Impala before I ever had a shop. But that was NOT the case with this car. Other than a self cleaning engine and transmission (constant oil leaks) to deal with, the car was in really good shape. No rot through anywhere. But, the rust situation still has nothing to do with the kit we developed. We were looking for a test car and this car was available. Answers to questions about why the owner would spend money to turbo charge this car can be answered by the owner. The condition of this car had no effect whatsoever on the development of the trubo kit.

As for the price dropping to $1500.00. That will never happen. Parts alone can not even be purchased for that price. The kit, as installed on this car was not $5,000.00. In fact I'm not even sure where that number came from. Do everything in 304 stainless, polished parts, all the options and maybe...

The oil pump is from STS. I do not know the manufacturer. Due to the patent STS holds, we have to order all parts from STS, except for those we manufacture ourselves.

The last day I drove the car was one of the wettest days we have had in Seattle. I drove it off and on all day for a total of probably 45 miles including freeway. The filter never even got wet except for a little splashing onto the front. As mentioned, there are companies selling water proof sleaves for the filter. I believe they are called "hydra shields" or something similar. Water is not able to permiate through.

The twin turbo kit we are working on for one customer will most likely mount the filters behind the bumper. We'll see when we get there.

If there are any other questions about the turbo kit itself or the mounting of the turbo kit, I will be happy to answer. Questions about the condition of the car, the investment, etc will be left to the owner of the vehicle.

Thanks all.

www.outwears.com sells prefilters, and I highly recommend them. IIRC K&N gets theirs from them.

I see nothing wrong with the underside of that car. None of you probably ever saw what the underside of a NJ car looks like. lenny Posted a picture of his undercarriage the one day, and most of us wondered how it was still on the road with as bad as the UCAs were..

if i stay out of boost drives like a normal lt1 equipped b body...

why would i build this chassis, because i love them...do i need to say more?? bought the car 5 years ago for 1800.00, at that time it was a steal, especially for a 9c1 with grey interior and no holes from being in service. my plans then and still now is to do a SS clone...already have the complete SS interior and rear quarter glass conversion...its a bit of a rare car in my area...

i went with STS because at the time we were selling a lot of kits locally and built up credit with STS towards a kit, went with clear image for a custom setup because they were relatively close, there good at what they do and were looking for a test mule. im more then happy with my setup, its a blast to drive and the looks on peoples faces is priceless... at the end of the day im happy with the car and nothign else should really matter for the condition etc...

the whole reason for this thread is to show that the rear mount b body kit is on the road, functioning and available...not the condition of my car and why i would do it....

I dont see nothing wrong with your car at all...kinda a shame you posted up this information and end up having to almost "defend" your car, set-up, and reasoning....my maint thing is..when I see somebody attack someones build or car period..I always wonder wtf do THEY drive...whats done to THEIR car..not some BS "Ima gonna do this..I wanna do that"...cause a pair of lips can and WILL say anything

NICE RIDE Man....thanks for sharing your set-up....10-12 PSI on a built motor would be nuts.

Curious how the car would run at the track? How soon does the boost kick in? Total weight of the turbo setup?
