Did you know that you can access your Engine(and other) trouble codes thru the Climate Control? Did you also know that you can accurately monitor the engine RPM, vehicle speed, coolant temp, and others? If so, good job! If not, look at this! ;)

This is for 94-96's!!

Instructions for putting ACC in diagnostic mode -
- turn ignition to ON position (or start vehicle)
- press and hold the "temp up" and "OFF" buttons at the same time until the unit does a full segment check.
- Release the buttons.
- Display should read -00... you are now in diagnostic mode
- Using the fan up/down buttons, select desired function from above
- press the "middle" Button. It should be in the top right corner on the CC.
- To Exit the trouble code area, and go back to the -00 display, hit the "Middle" button again.

Have fun!

You will see -00. You can change the funtion(it will say -01, -02, etc) with the fan up, and down buttons. Here is a list of what all the -00 numbers mean.

-08 Coolant Temp (°F) - Reading taken at Cylinder head sensor, typically 20* cooler than the -24 reading
-14 Vehicle speed
-24 Coolant Temp (°C) - Reading taken at the Water Pump sensor, This is what the PCM uses to control the fans.

PCM diagnostics codes... (-00)

11: malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) circuit
13: Bank 1 (left) heated o2 sensor (open circuit)
14: Engine coolant coolant temperature sensor (siganl voltage low, high tempurature indicated)
15: Engine coolant coolant temperature sensor (siganl voltage high, low tempurature indicated.
16: Distributor ignition system (low resolution pulse)
18: injector circuits.
21: Throttle position sensor TPS circuit (signal voltage high)
22: Throttle position sensor TPS circuit (signal voltage low)
23: Air intake temperature IAT sensor circuit (signal voltage high, low temperature indicated.

I don't see why not, if it is wired up properly, which I'm sure you did.

This was other guys info, I had put on BuickFourms, from here. So now I was just putting it back.

my 92 is about the same but instead of hitting the middle button I hit the celcius/farenheight button

Well to continue on my 92 Roadmaster limited after accessing the diagnostic menu in my climate controll some stuff seems the same and some stuff is different like for example on -02 Im getting readings and they change and its higher than the codes posted above so im thinking maby temp for something..My menu only goes up to -24 and some just stay at 00..Is there a difference in the displacment in codes for my 92 rather than the 94-96 or can I get pcm and ccm readings at all on my 92??thx

Once you get -00 on climate control, how do you retrieve PCM codes? My scanner reports 36, but I do not see how I would get a 36 on the CC. Thanks.
"- press the "middle" Button. It should be in the top right corner on the CC."

Repeat pressing the middle button until it repeats the codes.


"Auto" button exits from the diagnostics mode.

Outside Air Temperature Display Update

To prevent incorrect outside air temperature display due to engine heat, the H-A/C control will allow the outside air temperature display to increase only after one of the following conditions are met.

When Vehicle is First Started
  • Ignition system is turned off for over three hours. The actual outside air temperature will be displayed when the ignition system is turned on.
  • Ignition system is turned off for less than three hours and Engine coolant temperature is less than 10°C (50°F) higher than the outside air temperature reading.
If the above conditions are not met, the outside air temperature display from the previous ignition cycle will be displayed.

When Vehicle is Moving

  • Vehicle speed is between 32 to 72 km/h (20 to 45 mph) for three minutes. If the vehicle speed drops below 32 km/h (20 mph), the timer will reset.
  • Vehicle speed is above 32 km/h (20 mph) for one minute after reaching 72 km/h (45 mph). If the vehicle speed drops below 32 km/h (20 mph), the timer will reset.
The temperature display will be allowed to decrease at any time.

Yeah you can change the original post if that is what you are trying to change, you have to get a hold of a mod to do it. I wanted to change one of my posts and couldn't do it either.

While in -03 SIR it shows 61 and 62 also 161 and 162(historic 61/62)
When i press the off key its as if it is cycliing through them, only once did it display 00 but a moment after it displayed the codes again.
I was in a small front end collision, the book is of no help, what could i be looking at?

Got my first SES light :( Anyway to use the CC for codes on ODBII cars?
