I've had the wild idea to put the HVAC controls in the spot where the radio originally was, so I could make further changes to the bottom half of the dashboard to fit a double-DIN radio.

However... last week I found a '92 Caprice in a junk yard and was able to partially disassemble the dashboard. The cable which connects to the hot/cold slider does not appear to have any slack which would allow me to even try to put that unit in the top of the dash. Since I couldn't get it to stretch I didn't take out the car's radio to see if it'd physically fit.

Has anyone by chance taken a '91-3 car apart enough to confirm this for me? Thanks!

If I remember correctly many people did this mod back in the day.
I know it's a '94-6 thing for sure, but can't remember seeing anyone do it on a '91-3 car. Maybe next Spring I'll give it a shot after all. Thanks!

I just went and looked in my 93 parts car. It appears you have more room behind mounting in the hvac area. Mostly because the hvac sits about 3/4 inch further out than the radio
Oh, that's a good point; thank you for checking on it. I will probably go with plan B and leave the HVAC stuff where it is.
