EDIT Update: June 5th. Bry Herter wins Super Pro sponsored by Mechanicsville Performance
Bry Herter wins the ECIRS bracket race sponsored by ISSCA.
Mike Kozloff driving Bry's 94 SS wins the Super Natural sponsored by Ellwein/Engines.

Greetings fellow Impala SS racers. For the east coast people this is a must attend event....the very last East Coast Impala Open at historic 75-80 Dragway Monrovia Maryland. The inaugural ECIO held in 1998 set the Impala racing world forward by having the first heads up racing event. John Rafteseth ran the historic first 11 second 1/4 mile that day. Since then we have about 40 more people in the 11's.

This is the last ECIO because this is the last year of operation for the historic 75-80 Dragway. The owner is an NHRA Hall-of-Famer, Bill Wilcom. He sold the track due to personal health concerns. He reduced his schedule this year and deleted all Sunday racing, ACCEPT for the last ECIO which will be June 5th. (Thanks Bill).

As well as bracket racing and heads up racing, we have a nice grass hill to park and gather on and it's a comfortable place to enjoy good looking fast cars.

ISSCA paid for the bracket race winner's wall plaque and the heads up winners each receive a trophy supplied by 75-80.

EDIT: "any car" is defined as a 94-96 Impala SS. All other cars are case-by-case. Good looking LT1 powered Caprice/Roadmaster/Fleetwood cars and Wagons are generaly accepted. See me for the go/nogo.

Heads up classes will be just like in 1998. Super Pro, (any car with power adders)
Super Natural, (any car with NO power adders).
There are no other restrictions what-so-ever. Just have an NHRA legal car for the ET that it runs. You think your car is the fastest in the world? It isn't fast unless you bring it here and prove it. No weight limit. Bring on the big blocks and tubbed race cars.

And like last year, we will have a bolt-on 350 class. (the closest of all heads up racing).
Bolt-on cars cannot run power adders and they have to have the stock 350 LT1 engine and stock cam and the heads have to be stock accept you can have better valve springs and roller rockers. No weight limit. You can gut the car and weigh in at 3000lb if you want. That would be cool.

So for the 8th and final ECIO we will have 4 racing classes

ECIRS Bracket Race sponsored by ISSCA
Super Pro Heads Up race sponsored by Mechanicsville Performance
Super Natural Heads Up race sponsored by Ellwein/Engines
HUBO Heads Up Bolt On race sponsored by the Impala SS 1/4 times page

Sunday June 5th, Gate never closes so come early. 9am is the official time when the track opens. Qualifying at 10am. Elims in the afternoon.

you know, that photo I posted above is probably the only existing photo of BBHP #1 with it's 6 speed and camaro engine with LT4 Hot cam. This area is fertile ground. Josh created more than 100 6-speed kits and hopefully put Doug Rippie out of the rip-off bussiness.
ECIO is the home of the 1st car in the 11's. The 1st Heads Up Pro Tree Race. The early bracket racing pioneering.
I have good memories of the place. 2 years ago Keith Brantley and I went side-by-side 3 times down this track. In the end it was Keith by a nose.
He once had the fastest GM headed all natural Impala SS and ran 11's at the GMHT Performance mag invite only deal LT1-LS1 showdown just 2 days after the 2003 ECIO.
We even made a semi-pro TV commercial to promote the ECIO. That 20 second spot is on an ImpalaFest video. I have the master tape here and should maybe host it on the web one day.
Everyone bring video cameras and photo cameras. We'll probably be showing this event to our great grand children one day.

Joe, just come with what you have and be with the group, take pictures, makes some runs, have some good food and be part of the final days of 75/80.

Quite Possibly the Guff-Wein machine will be ready for track time by then. I just gave her battery power for the first time, (not attempting to turn the key to start). All is well. I read the PCM and flashed the PCM. It's lucky that it all works because we have 1/2 the wires cut off.

If Guff-Wein is ready next week you can run The Heavy Eliminator. If not then maybe Nab has a spare car?

75/80 is the first track I ever raced on. I remember preparing my car the 94 two weeks prior in 1999. I added ASM shorties, Dynomax muffs, Suspension Techniques Springs, K+N intake, and Hypertech Computer Tuning, and A 160 degree T-stat.

I remember Randy and Scott wanted to know what I had under the hood because, I did'nt know any body and I kept my hood closed. Then they went and got Karl so he could tech me and they saw the shorties and intake.

The car ran good for the times back then. The slips went from 15.3 to a 14.91. I also won a bet from a worker at The Andrews Air Force Base Craft Shop who thought the Impala SS was a slow car. It was a great day but it rained out.

I think the next year I went 3rd in the bracket race and won $40.00 form the raffle.

A few years later, I could not believe it, I went to second place in the bolt on contest with my wife's stock Impala! I kept the intake iced down and was able to tree the opponents at the line. It finally caught up with me when I faced Gary Carderelli who had a fast bolt on car!

Last year, was special to me because my car was running consistant. I blew it by cutting a .49999 light against Barry! I climbed from 15th to 11th place, with three remaining races to go. The next race which was at Lebonon Valley rained out. Between all of those memories, I lost to DeBlaz in the final during my quest for the championship year. I was able to score some serious points along the way.

75/80 will be missed. It was a great location and its full of great memories. See you all there next week. Bill Wilcom always let us have our way there.

No secret. I'm building a new motor and giving the stocker a rest. I was almost done yesterday until we discovered that the push rods are too long. Hopefully I can get the right size rods on Tuesday, which is too late for this race. So, I'll be at 75/80 with little stumpy. The new motor should make it's debut at the LISST Drag Day.

I just hope to have a good bracket day. Make that a great bracket day. I'll be avoiding Karl this time. Perhaps I'll take on Fred instead, although that didn't work out last year.

</font>[/QUOTE]Glen, thanks for the update..

Sounds like you are going to move up in speed and I assume it will take you out of the Bolt-on class when you slip it into your machine...

As for avoiding Karl,
, not to worry he is a push over.

If I can race him and win then anyone can. :D Can anyone saw Lucky.

As for Fred, you could be right but remember Fred is running consistent and hovering around the .000 mark at the tree. Can you say I hope I am Lucky at 75/80.

Either way it will be a great racing event with lots of memories to talk about in the future. See you all there!

Typical from Fred, he is stealth and quiet and he will kick your ass if you don't cut a good light!

Now you can't get Fred "Hood Up" Gramby to keep his hood SHUT at an event. He is always cooling that bad boy off for maximum performance!

That's what the ladies call it, too!

Woo Hoo !! that would be awesome :D How ya makin out with the featherweight monster?
G
Well, The Featherweight Eliminator has a running engine. So what's keeping it from the track? Just need:
Front brakes.
Drivers Seat.
Firewall front and rear patched.
Cheetah shifter installed.
Some sort of paint to mask the ugliness.

I think I can get the Cheetah installed tomorrow, Wednesday.
I hope that Nab can do the brakes one evening this week and maybe patch the firewall holes.

I want the roll bar instlled but it can go down the track all natural and maybe not break the 11.99 rule because it has a super tight, (non-drag racing torque converter). If it had my 4400 Edge I can't see holding it back from 11.50's all natural.

So I'll bring it and The Heavy Eliminator if possible.

G
Karl,

For 2005 season, NHRA and IHRA changed the rollbar rule to now 11.49 not 11.99. HTH.
