I never use RTV on any gasket, ever. It isn’t needed, period. The gasket does all the sealing. Only place on these engines that ever gets RTV is the intake manifold end rails.
There are cases where I like to smear a very light coating of "The Right Stuff" (but a strong no to RTV) on stubborn paper gaskets that are hard to install or tend to weep. TB gasket is not one of those cases.
Now the oil cooler housing gasket to block? Yes! (citing random example)
RTV, grey, is helpful on WP to block mating as often the block surface gets "pitted" so it fills those imperfections that are to deep for the paper gasket itself to accommodate.
Of course, china walls for intake gasket and ends, curved part, of pan gasket with black "ulyta" as it is better suited for oil and heat.
