OK...I just found the wierdest thing. There is a toggle switch in my trunk that turns the trunk light that is up in the rear deck on and off. Is this normal for 9C1's? Does any one else have one of these? Also i thought that the trunk light turns off when you close the trunk and i got down as far as i could right before closing the trunk lid and it looked liket the light was still on. How does the trunk light normaly work and where is it located? Please help me. I guess this is why my battery was dead and i thought i just had a bad battery because i just put i new one in. So i accidentally found this switch tonight and wondering if this is what everyone has. If not what triggers it on and off. Thanks

Thanks HACK,

So how does the stock light turn off and on. Where is the switch that turns if off and on. I guess ill have to have a friend lay in the trunk and see if the light goes out when fully closed. Thanks again.

I have a 96 SS. On mine, and I think the other years to, there's a mercury switch that shuts the trunk light off. Been a while since I looked, but I would imagine its on the trunk lid support arm, drivers side. I do know I don't have a separate switch.

You're correct on all counts, Steve. The Caprices are set up the same way.

I replaced the stock trunk light with a bigger/brighter one with a switch. I left the mercury switch intact and use the second switch to turn off the light when I have the trunk open all day at a show. Easier on the battery that way.

mine has some other kind of stupid pushbutton switch that I wanna pull out, they drilled 2 extra holes when they installed it, so it leaks water, not to mention they cut the rubber trunk seal too, so it leaks even more. you think the mercury switch it still there? how can I remove this stupid switch, I tend to hit it with stuff too when I use my trunk

the mercury switch is a little black capsule about an inch long and big around as your pinky. It is located on the drivers side trunk arm. sometimes they are white in color.
