What code is on the SPID if your car is equipped with the "trailer towing" option..?

What does the "trailer towing" option include..?

It's V92...Trailer Provisions.

I'm not sure what it does come with but I know it DOES NOT come with a harness to run your trailer lights.

Nore does it come with a hitch !! I've seen plenty for sale with towing option and no hitch.

i know it adds the external trans cooler and the load-leveling air shocks. Not sure what else though......but I have 2 with it !!

The V92 trailering option includes:

V08 - Heavy Duty Cooling (mechanical fan)
Heavy Duty Condenser
KC4 - Engine Oil Cooler
KD1 - Transmission Oil Cooler
KG9 - 140 Amp Alternator
GW9 - 2.93 gears
G80 - posi

I think that most non-9C1 LT1s have the KC4. (Not all, my other wagon did not).
Most LT1s have the KG9. (Again, not all, my other wagon did not.) I think that all LT1s have the KD1.

I think that all wagons have the F40 HD suspension and JA2 Heavyweight brakes. All wagons probably came with the G67 automatic load leveling, but I am not sure about that.

JA9 is heavyweight disc/disc such as on a 9C1 or Impala SS. I did not think that any wagons came from the factory with JA9.
I thought that all the V92s had G80, but clearly they don't.
The 2.93 was the gearing on the trailering package on the LT1 wagons.

This is like my '95 wagon which came from the factory without engine oil cooler and with the 105 amp alternator. I have since installed the 7P8 and the 140 amp alternator.

1A2 special service wagons (B35) in 94-96 had the same front brakes as the RPO JA9 HD system (defined as 4-wheel disc) equipped 94-96 9C1 sedan (B19), but the rear brakes on the 1A2 wagon remained drums.

There is no specific RPO that identified the front brake changes on the 1A2 other than the basic option package, that I am aware of. The same upgrades from the SEO-equipped sedan were installed--caliper mods to accept 0.090" thicker inboard pads, cut-down rotor shields, different outer front air deflectors, and HD vented wheels. It is still called JA2 (HD disc/drum) on the SPIL, but requires the FMSI D614A disc pad set.

The "standard" JA2 system specifies FMSI D52 pads, which have about the same thickness spec on the inner pad as the D614 which was standard on Impala SS.

NOTE--edited 3/30

Piston in caliper used on 1A2 wagon is GM 18020238, which is 0.075" shorter, and gives the thicker inboard pad room to fit.

In the GM parts list, the specific callout for this piston is B35 with 1A2 and JM4 (power disc/drum). The JA2 RPO is never mentioned, as that was the standard spec for all wagons in those years.

Mine came with....
V92...Trailer Provisions
V08...COOLING SYSTEM, HEAVY WTY
KC4...COOLING SYSTEM, ENG OIL
F40...SUSPENSION SYSTEM, FRT, RR, HD, VAR I
GU5...AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
G80...AXLE POSITRACTION, LIMITED SLIP
JA2...BRAKE, HEAVY WEIGHT DISC DRUM
JM4...BRAKE, SYSTEM, PWR, FRT DISC, RR DRUM, CAST IRON
K60 GENERATOR, 100 AMP

I guess if we get enough of these lists generated we could eventually boolean the trailer codes....

I dont know how to decipher the SPIDs but I'll photo both the '94 and '96 stickers tonight and post tomorrow.

Anyone also want to see the Window Sticker of the car I'm parting out ??

Obviously the TBI cars came with different V92 trailering packages than the LT1s did. They need more gearing, that's why you get 3.23s. Now if some one wants to sell a good 3.23 wagon rear with posi I'm game.

18-20ish. It's been a long time since I bothered calculating the mileages it gets though.

I have a '93 Caprice with a towing package. How do I check what rear axle I have?

How do I check what options it has?

What tranny do I have?

And one more stupid question - how do I adjust the air shocks on it when I tow something?

Properly working factory air shocks are auto leveling.
Your rear gears would be one of the RPOs (three character code) on the SPID. On my '94 wagon, it is on the car near where the rear tailgate closes.

Check your RPO codes (on my wag they are on the passenger side of the rear hatch frame).

See above...

You have real air shocks, the kind that look like regular shocks but are inflatable? You're gonna have to find the fitting and pump 'em up I guess. If you got the auto leveling thingamajig then it should work as the name implies, automatically.

VINGUY can break your codes down for you once you find them...but only if you are really nice!
