What are the structual differences to the various types of trailing arms. Hotchkis uses the rectangular steel arms, J&M has the round tubing, and Metco has the solid billet aluminum.

With regards to the lower control arms... does one design tolerate flex more so then the others?

I haven't seen specs, BUT.....I'd suspect that the order, from least to most flex, would be : Metco, J&M, Hotchkis.

Keep in mind, all 3 are MUCH stiffer than stock arms.

How much difference is it between purchasing an aftermarket lower bar only versus purchasing both the lower and upper bar? From my readings, it seems the main weak point is the stamped lower bar.

An upper control arm upgrade can help or hurt, depending on what you're looking at doing. For drag racing definitely do both lowers and uppers. For optimal cornering, you may wanna re-think the uppers.

A lower arm upgrade will pretty much only help.

Do most of the manufactures sell just the lower arms? Is this all I need to center the rear wheels? Are the 9c1 and the impala the same in this area? A whole bunch of questions, but you guys seem to be the ones to ask. Thanks Mike

Mike,
If you want to center the rear wheels, you will need BOTH upper AND lower control arms, in the extended length. My preference is METCO. Solid billet aluminum with poly bushings that are harder than stock, but softer than most other poly bushings.
Good luck,
Joe

I only added the lowers and went with Metco. These are heavy duty and noisy.erc erc erc we have to grease em every other week.
