can a trans cooler be run w/o the internal cooler connect and not suffer any ill effects.

basically, can the internal cooler be deleted and instead of the trans lines being run to the radiator, could they be run straight to the cooler?

and in doing so, would this effect the required operating temps of the trans. i.e taking to long to get up to operating temps etc?

Some cars do have it this way (my BMW does) but the trans cooler on that is about 10 times larger than the one on the b-body, it's the same size as the radiator. Also it has a mechanical fan so there is always air moving over it. Between those two factors, with the stock b-body trans cooler, I'd say don't do it.

Transmissions don't really need to get to a certain temperature, they just need to not overheat.
