whats wrong with your current one? if nothing, than you want a new torque conveter, and shift kit, not a trans.

Unless ou just want to buy a new trans... in that case, you can give me your old one.

But if you need a trans, your right there near CPT!

if your tranny is fine you don't need to get another one, as for gears, you can go with a lot of combos, but it depends on what you like,
first, do you know what gears you have, are they 2.56:1 or they are 2.93:1, to find this out you will need to check you spid code in your trunk lid.
second, if you go with higher gears you will want a posi, you can go with 3.08 as a caprice or impala, or you can with 3.42, 3.73, 4.10 or higher. then depend on the gears you get you will have to get a torque converte,
third, as for the tranny, you can rebuild it with better parts adn reprogram your pcm will be a most after, you do the tranny and gears.
be prepare to spend almost $3000 on gears, posi, converter, drive shaft and installation, you can probably save some money on the drive shaft if you get the oem rebalance, but that is up to you.
for a new performance tranny is like another $3000 to $4000 and that is a very reliable source, so you will have to do research on that, you will find very different opinions on who or what company builds the best and DURABLE tranny for our cars.
good luck and tell us more about you caddy

Stock cam? Step up to 3.42 gears. Lots more cam? Go with 3.73 or 4.10. S10 or aftermarket looser converter, make sure converter company has specific recommendation on the converter. Don't guess what you need when it comes to converter and cam.

The 3.42's are a great setup for stock gears, although I do feel a larger cam would do better with them personally....

DOn't waste your time on 3.08's!! You will regret not going with atleast 3.42's.

Also, with new gears, you do not NEED a new converter. A higher stall converter goes very nice with more gear. But more gear by itself is great.

$3000-$4000 for a New trans? Holy Crap!! You can get a top of the line CPT for $1,900ish... A basic is only $1300, shipped.

that's if you want a really good one, cpt that that out of georgia or south caroline, it don't mather, just search good on that, there's other places that have great trannies too, maybe i went to high on the tranny but it's always good to estimate a little higher, that way you don't come short on it later,
the converter help a lot, gears alone your engine rev higher, which means more gas, loose the ability to coast down.
higher gear alone, you let of the gas and the car dives down, engine break big time, you go with higher gears, get a converter.
if you go with 3.08 gears from 2.56, it's a difference and no need to change the drive shaft or converter, you will be with in averege gas miles.
