B-body Group,

I have read through many of the past posts on this and they are all 5 or more years old. I have 3 questions on my remote trunk latch activator when it seems to be stuck in the "open" position, not letting the truck relatch on closing:
1. Is there a shaft that you can lubricate with silicon or other lubricant that will solve the sticking problem;
2. If there isn't, can you buy a replacement latch activator; and,
3. Is it hard to swap out with the old one?

I am now only using the key access, so I don't run into the no close problem, which occurs about 1/2 the time. Also, the local junk yard got a '96 in a few weeks ago, but they hadn't sprung the trunk yet.

Best,

Same actuator and latch for many years/models, not just B-body, with emergency release handle required since 2001. I'd unbolt and test it to see if it's the actuator(they do fail) or if latch needs lube. Actuator p/n is 16640848, still avail new at Rockauto and others.
Ebay search 16640848 shows actuators as well as assemblies with release handle. Here's mine:

you should remove the old actuator for the time being and you won’t have to worry about a no close.
