Just a heads up for those attending the Tulsa ISSCA Nationals and the Friday evening drag racing at Tulsa Int'l Raceway....
We share the track with about 100 test-n-tune local cars. Bummer yes, but something like this is very workable.

The event staff is working their buns off, (for nothing but to serve the rest of us), in making this thing work as good as can be. I've talked to the track owner and he's given me a feeling that our 100 to 200 ISSCA cars will manage fine with the 100 locals.

I think GRAIL is doing an EXCELLENT job with this.

Note that Friday night racing will be somewhat "less hot". Not cool but less hot.
The TULSA NATS staff and I are working on pre-planning the drag racing day so that the track knows what we expect and so that you the participant knows what to expect.

Soon, after more brainstorming and fine tuning, you'll see that actual schedule of events. For example, gate opens at 5pm, tech from 5pm to 6pm. 1st qualifying session at 6pm, etc. etc.

So, it's true, the rumor that the track is not rented for our sole use. Apparently the owner just would not bargin. I don't blame him because many track operators have firm policy as to when a club can and cannot rent a track. My local track will not rent the track to anyone at all on a Friday night, Saturday or Sunday.
Even with having to share the track, I think we'll certainly get all of our elimination runs, (Bracket with buy-back and 2 classes of Heads Up). Umpteen and unlimited open timed runs are what gets the ax.

Lastly, please enjoy the drag night and have fun and tell the staff you appreciate what they do. Putting on a national event is something I would not want to do.

A Thank you goes out to all the un-named people who have put on and are putting on these national events.

Great update Karl. I know the ISSCA and you are trying to make this a great event. Besides, when the locals see our 10 and 11 second BeaSSts running down the track, they might just sit and watch, or tuck tail and run and hide! :D

mav, that might be a good way to look at it!! just what kind of iron are the going to run on a friday night in tulsa? i doubt the even have any cool aluminum!! we should be able to control the track in some form!!
G

i heard at shss2 they were going to use a

I like your attitudes.
And thanks for the support too. It really helps.
I made a wrong assumption in my first post above. I implied that GRAIL was the major portion of the ISSCA NAT's organization team. Sorry bout dat. People from GRAIL are majorly involved but it's the ISSCA hat that they and others are wearing when planing, creating and sweating for Tulsa. People from clubs all over the nation have been involved with this 1st ever ISSCA nationals and just mentioning GRAIL kinda leaves out all those who are working for us and the Tulsa Nats.

95 Imp, I'm pretty sure it's a "full" "sportsman" "handicaped" .500 tree for the bracket ET race, and a .400 Pro Tree for the heads up. Pro trees are fun.

G
Karl,
Understanding that we will have to share the track, will the program be set up like I2K2?
Tom
G
Hi Tom,
I think it may be like I2K2. When I know for certain, I'll post. I would also like to post every detail about how the night is planned so that everyone knows what to expect and can help out to make things run smoother.
So as soon as I find out, I'll post.

One thing we all know for certain is that the drag racing will have all of the ISSCA classes.
2 heads up classes and 1 ET bracket class.
For heads up:
Super Pro: Anyone with a power adder
Super Natural: Anyone with no power adders - i.e. all natural

ET bracket is called Super Sport, (SS)

Remember, the national ET and MPH records for drag racing are determined at this annual national event. here is a Link to the rules

So ya gotta be there or be square.

Oh...I also found the current national records...from 1st round of I2K2..
past..
Super Natural MPH record, 108.28 by Ron Sellers at I2K2 1st round. (Backup 111.34

Super Natural ET record, 12.687 by Ron Sellers at I2K2 1st round. (Backup 12.53)

Super Pro MPH record, 115.39 by Miguel Rea at I2K2 1st round. (backup 118.56 and 117.34). (Mark Proper had a 119.27 but it needs to be backed up).

Super Pro ET record, 11.717 by Miguel Rea at I2K2 1st round. (Backup 11.904)

I'm going to try for that super natural MPH and ET record but it may be hard to get in the Tulsa heat. Ron and I have very simmilar cars so I have my work cut out for me. Who's going to knock off the Super Pro records?????

You might mention to them that there will be more than 100 B-bodies hogging the show and thus it'd be better to show up some other day. The regular TnT cars are going to be bummed when they see the HUGE amount of ISSCA cars in the lanes. Hopefully most of them will call it a night early.

Tom, you can run in 1 heads up class and the ET class. You cannot run in 2 heads up classes.

Karl
G
Do you have to be a member of ISSCA or be in the carshow to race with the other b-bodies? My car is no where near a show car, just a daily driver complete with a ding or to, crappy paintjob on the doors, etc.
G

quote:
Do you have to be a member of ISSCA or be in the carshow to race with the other b-bodies?

You have to belong to ISSCA to register for the event (you can sign up for ISSCA when you register). You do not have to participate in (or pay for) the car show however if all you wanna do is drag race.

More details available on the sign up website for the event that you can get to by CLICKING HERE.

So at this point if all you wanna do is drag race and you are NOT an ISSCA member yet it would cost you $85 ($35 base fee, $40 ISSCA year membership, $10 drag race fee). If you are already an ISSCA member, it'd be $45 ($35 base fee, $10 drag race). That gets you into the event (and spectator admission for the weekend for you and up to 4 guests), racing admission (to race, not just spectate) for Drag Racing, A T-shirt, a goody bag, and a dash plaque.
G
Thanks o the link Ed. Last night at work it finally hit me, ISSCA event=ISSCA membership duh!!
I've been approved for the nights off, so I'm there dude. I don't know about the Hallett racing since I have no helmet or oher potective equipment, but diffinatly the drag racin.

I've been thinking about joining ISSCA,an/or NAISSO, so the Nats just pushed me into doing it sooner.

Wow, that's going to be a long night. With the local TNT, I think the track will be oiled down at least twice, so with 100 TNT cars, 1.5 hours to clean the track, and our Impalas, I will really be surprised if the finals are run before 1 am. I think the autocross scheduled time of 8 am should be changed to 9 or 10 am after the long night of drag racing.

Does anyone know if 93 octane pump gas is sold in Tulsa (Chevron, Exxon, etc.), the two times I have raced at Thunder Valley in Norman, OK all I could ever find was 91 octane and I wonder if this is state wide.
G
Hey Rick,

I thought you were going to ask about having the autocross start a few hours later too.
That'd be nice for the late night drag racers.

Hi Karl,

Starting the autocross a hour or two later would really be nice for the drag racers that have to change four tires and put their sway bars back on. :D

Rick that's a great question. I don't even want to know what my car would do with 91 octane in 100*+ temps. I sure hope they have 93 Chevron around somewhere. Can any local Tulsa guys answer this?
G
it's a BYOG party

(bring your own gas!)

There shouldn't be a problem getting 93, about 98% of the stations have it.
