While browsing RockAuto, I realized that there appear to be two different senders listed for the 94-96 Fleetwood. Part # FG128C under "Fuel Sending Unit" costs $116. Then, under "Fuel Pump & Housing Assembly", part # SP128C1H is listed for only $78. The pictures look identical.


What is the difference?

I'm not seeing the other part number listed anywhere for a B/D body (on rock auto anyway). I tried 94, 95, 96 fleetwood and 96 impala SS and the only part number Rock Auto showed me for Spectre is the SP128 one. If you look at amazon, the dimensional specs for the two pumps is completely different. Not really sure though, other than calling Spectre direct, but if it helps at all I just ordered n SP128C1H for my 96 Impala SS. lol

I searched both part# this morning and only one showed. BUT:

Bottom line do not trust RockAuto. Get Spectra or a dealer to verify parts description. I may post RockAuto's customer service responses to a inquiry I just made as to why they list a part that a manufacturer does not admit exists , and in fact recommends a different part for my application.

Also, SSandman... are you sure you bought SP128C1H and not SP128B1H? The latter is the number for the Impala unit.

SP128C1H: D-body (Caddy only)

The only difference that I am aware of is the extra length of the metal sending unit pipes for the D-body application. I suspect the D-body one would work on the B-body but the B-body one may not work on the D-body unless you can get the fuel lines to reach without stress.

The d-body sender has 4 wires, whereas the b-body unit has 3. I would assume the extra wire is related to the digital gauge.

Oh yeah, that would be a big detail for me to forget! Sorry. That's correct... the Caddy sending unit does not share the fuel pump ground in the tank. It has a separate wire, which accounts for the 4th wire.


Now if someone were in a bind on a b-body, they could rewire it by cutting off the plug from the old harness, wiring it in, and connecting one of the sender wires to the ground wire. But I'm not recommending this at all! Just buy the correct sender. Rewiring it the other way around (adapting a b-body to a d-body wiring) would be harder but perhaps not impossible.

THIS! Sorry about that, grabbed the wrong part number. The SP128B1H is what I purchased.

Simple. One of them has a pump (Fuel pump and Housing) and the other (Fuel sending unit) doesn't. They are listed the same way for the Caprice.

I bought the cheaper one and it came with a fuel pump.

Spectra fuel pump gets a lot of negative reviews. Nevertheless, in most cases the old wiring could be the real culprit.
Question: anybody having a bad experience with THE PUMP & HOUSING ASSEMBLY (not just the pump)?

In the picture you can see the original ACDelco pump I had to replace with Spectra. The burnt plastic housing is around negative contact. The new Spectra pump (or maybe the old wiring) is a suspect for recent no start condition after only 7 months 1,400 miles.

As offered in your related thread, I never had issue with my Spectra replacement in my old FWB. I did however install a new harness, where the problem more likely lies as you say if reusing the original.
