This alarm looks really good, but it doesnt look like it has that many more features than the 5901. The App looks really advanced, it is an amazing feature but is it really worth 300, plus 30 a year for the service?

That app is just for the iPhone, not the iPod touch. It does look really cool. We just started selling them at Best Buy. I don't really know much about it as I'm not in the mobile electronics department, but it looks really cool. It's probably not really worth the extra $30 a month that AT&T will charge for it, but I know I'd have it if I had the 5902 and an iPhone.

Currently SmartStart is available only for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Viper SmartStart is designed to be installed and used with authorized Apple iPhones with AT&T service, or authorized iPod Touch devices.

Above is from vipers website.....gotta love how best buys workers always think they know everything...lol jk buddy no harsh feelings.
From looking at the website the only difference in the 5902 alarm is the remote which is crazy cuz its like 300 more than the 5901 and if u look at the remote for the 5901 the msrp is like 299!!! So does that mean the 5902 remote is 600 bucks??

I by no means take any offense to that comment, nor do I think I know everything. I don't even work in that department. I just read some signage about it as I passed it up on my way to take a piss a couple of days ago. All I saw on the sign was the iPhone and how it would be an extra charge per month. I figured there'd really be no way to be charged monthly with an iPod touch. I guess you'll probably just have to pay a certain fee to download an app to get it to work.

I think your payin at&t for the cell service for the box u put in the car....I read that its 299 and that covers the first year then is 29.99 a year after that. But I seen it in best buys ad and it said 499 but im guessin that 200 is for installation... I mainly just wanna know does this send an alert to your iWhatever if your alarm goes off like the remote does?? That's the only way I could see myself gettin this...id have to grab me a touch but that wouldn't be too bad I guess... and just my 2 cents viper should add gps tracking to this since they already got a cell signal in the car

Okay, it works over the internet. Basically you pay for it "pushes" information to your iPhone over the AT&T network. If you're using an iPod touch, it will work only if you have WiFi where you're at with your iPod. You have to download the app and activate it. If you're using an iPod and don't have any WiFi access, it's not going to work. That pretty much renders it useless with an iPod. If you're parked in a parking garage where satellite can't get to the car, you're screwed as well because that's how it gets the signal to the car. That's my understanding after doing some extensive reading about it.

So I plan on getting an alarm very soon the 5901.. whats the pros and cons of this system if they are any?
I have the 5901 on my RMW and I love it. the remote has some pretty decent range, but it is not a mile by any means. The 2 way communication is awesome, it can tell you the temp of the inside of your car upon remote start. Also, it can be programmed to turn on the defrost at a certain temp. You can change the color of the backlight on the remote screen...This thing is pretty darn sweet, it is money well spent IMO. I also opted for the glass break sensor, which detects the distinct sound of breaking glass in case someone uses a punch on your glass, which wouldn't set off the shock sensor.
