Hey all, I have recently discovered moisture on the front passenger side floor of my wagon. How do I fix this? I do not have a clue as to where it is coming from. My carpet is damp, the car has a mild mildew smell and the insulation is wet, when i squeeze it, water comes out..

Any suggestions?
HELP!!!

One possibility would be a low AC refrigerent charge. When the car is operating with low Freon charge, the evaporator core ices over solid. When you park, the heat from the engine thaws it rapidly and small chunks of ice block the core drain. The rest of the melting ice flows into the car.

Check the core drain to make sure any condensate from normal operation comes through it.

Im not sure about caprices, but when my S10 Blazer did this, the heatercore was leaking...right onto passenger floor!

i thought heater core leaks are antifreeze based?

with the ice forming potential... a ton of water comes out of the car when the a/c runs and the a/c blows ice cold. any idea?

I had this problem on my Custom Cruiser. My problem was the drain hole for the cowl vents was clogged so when it rained heavy water would back up in the cowl vents and water would seep into the passenger side through the blower. After a few weeks the crap that was stuck in there was washed out.

Water in my wagon flowed back into the rear seat area and started a little rust. It was real light and i ground it down and all the leakage has disapeared.

Here's another vote for the a/c drain being partially blocked. It took several sttempts at clearing the tube to finally get the carpet to dry up in my SS.

That was the first problem I had with my car.

I put in a piece of rubber hose in place of the missing drain elbow, tie-wrapped so that it kept a nice radius aimed straight at the
ground.

I bought a can of black permatex gasket maker. I sealed the bottom part of the evaporator/heater box to the top
part. This slowed the leak down. I pulled the cowl off and sealed the inside of the vent duct. I sealed everything that already had factory sealer under the cowl. I sealed the underside of the windshield. I sealed top and bottom of the reveal moulding that goes along the front of each door. I still don't know where it was leaking, but that fixed it.

If the drain is like my Impala, it is at the bottom of the evaporator housing, leading out to the firewall. There is (supposed to be ) a rubber elbow, which gets the water away from the firewall and drips on the frame(on the ABS connector in ABS equipped cars)

Ok, just got done going through the EXACT same thing with my CC. The a/c drain was causing my problem. In stead of the water runing out the drain and dripping onto the ground, it was following the bottom of the drain and runing back into the car, down the inside of the firewall and into the carpet. I just put a piece of 5/8 heater hose on it and routed it down between the inside wheel cover and the frame. It took a good week or two for it to completely dry up. But haven't had the problem since.

If you want to check it, take off the cover just under the glove box and look around the seal going from the a/c unit to the firewall, mine was all soaked up with water.

hope this helps....good luck

where inside the car should this hose be? I have looked all over under the passenger side of the dash and can not find it. Are there two spots I should be looking at?

zim, there is no hose from factory, what you have is the plastic molded a/c box on the inside and it has a hard plastic pipe looking drain sticking through the firewall, you will not be able to see the drain from the inside, the drain is under the hood on the firewall just above the frame on the passengers side. What you should look for under the dash is the foam rubber type seal that is around the a/c unit to the firewall, when mine was leaking back in, this seal was soaking wet. You will need to take off the bottom cover just under the glove box and then look just above the carpet line...you may have to pull the carpet back a bit.............I will see if I can take some digital photos for you in the next day or so...as I have most of my interior pulled out for alarm and stereo install and sound panels, and bonny seats I will be picking up......so much to do, and so little time and money!

any questions, just drop me a line [email protected]

Why would you want to spend $4.95 on a rubber boot..plus pay for shiping.....when you can just go down and get some 5/8 hose a foot of it for .95 and be done with it?..plus you can get it away from the firewall better with the hose than the boot.

just my .02
