Looking for a low budget HU and would like to know what is an OK voltage to run amps? Currently have JL amps, sub and Focals, need a HU on a budget. Purchased a cheap one in the past, but it was garbage (low output no voltage was listed). I have been looking at a JVC with 2.5v.

TIA :D

As long as the amps' gain controls are capable of matching a 2.5 volt input and you know how to properly set the gain to match the output of the HU, you'll be fine with that. Most amps work well from .5 volts to 5 volts for their inputs. As long as the HU falls within that range, it'll work without clipping. If you use the gain as a volume knob, as many people incorrectly do, a HU with a higher output will allow the amps to feed the speakers "more" power. By "more" I mean "clipped."

Most those ratings are at full sometimes clipped volume.

The last JVC i did was clipping at 35 of 50

5 straight pioneer decks have been clip free at full volume.

Just shop in the 4v plus range for rated outputs. Youll be glad ya did.

cant skimp on the source unit too much. Your runnin good gear so dont stop there.
