The 2006 ISSCA Nationals are scheduled for July 4-8, 2006.
I think its cool that the event will be in Indy.
Personally, I will try to make the date, but then
again, I don't have a wife/kids etc. who may want
to do other things on the 4th of July week.

It's fine by me. I only live about 10 minutes from IRP and 35 minutes from Putnam Park.

It's going to be tough getting that week off work(I've only got 7 years seniority at work), but the family thing shouldn't be an issue here.

Tell you what though, there better be some major BBQ action going on and an entire beer truck. I'd volunteer for 'grille duty'. A nice pool would help too.
The party scene needs a wee bit of improvement over this year.

Indy is a major city so I would bet they put on a decent fireworks show.

At best, I'm ambivalent.

EDIT: Sh1t, I just read about LISST Drag Day being on the 8th. Not good.

it seems as if the event has been creeping more and more toward the 1st of july lately. bad news for me. i've got 2 weeks, the last of june and the first of july, timeshare on anna maria island,FL. every year. my wife's parents, grandparents and brother all live down there so it's a chance to spend an extended period of time with her family as well. so it's tough to bite the bullet and come up with the dollars to take 3 weeks vacation in a row anyway. now this year i'll have to lose days of my condo. i'd prefer to see it moved. in fact i'd prefer to see it moved from late june early julybut i realize i'm just one participant.
rock on, rus

Edit: mayne i shouldn't have posted this here if Nab's intention was to see how many folks garnered support for the date. kind of a devils advocate thing since Karl posted on the other thread that by it's nature you weren't going to have a lot of supportive posts. if that's the intention, i'll happily delete.

I love the idea of ISSCA at Indy in 2006 and have been anticipating the day. The date picked is fine because I realize that you cant take your pick at such a major convention place such as INDY. So I'm good with the date.

Top 10 reasons why I like ISSCA at Indy in 2006 and am ok with the date:

10. I'll get to drag race at IRP.
9. It's not all too far away from Maryland8. It's during a holiday so I'll probably be able to take even more vacation and go see friends and relatives in Michigan before or after INDY
7. I think it's a plus that ISSCA moves the venue each year to let people in the chosen area have a chance to attend a Nats.
6. I've never drag raced at IRP and now I can.
5. The INDY area is awesome. I think I'll be finding some go-cart tracks while I'm there.
4. It's not going to be impossible to attend the LiSSt drag day right after the INDY nats.
3. I'll meet people from that area of the country and possibly make friends.
2. I hear the hotel accomodations are very good and quite reasonable.
And the #1 reason I like ISSCA at INDY and am ok with the date: I'll get to drag race at IRP.

I realize that I'm probably in the minority here - I don't do anything special on July 4th. I will plan to go to the ISSCA event no matter which week it is, or where it is held. If it's not too far to drive, I'll bring my car. If it is farther than I want to drive, I'll fly in like Vegas and watch. At Vegas someone offered to let me co-drive their car and that was cool.

If events are going to be scheduled during the week as they have been, I have to take a whole week of vacation to attend. Holding it on a Holiday week means that I only have to take 4 days of vacation instead of 5, so it works for me.

Having said that, I would not be opposed to changing the date either. I'll be there unless something unexpected comes up.
G
Works for me since it will require one less work vacation day.

The 4th of July Week is an excellent time for me!

This is a personal reason for me, but so are many of the other reasons mentioned. My reason why this is the best time for me is because we shut down for the first 2 weeks in July and I have to use my vacation if I want to get paid. If the Nats were a different week I would have to make a decision of missing the nationals or not having enough time off around Thanksgiving & Christmas.

This way I can attend the nationals and have time to travel to my folks for Thanksgiving & Christmas.

This years MM was perfect timing for me as it left me with an extra week of vacation.

Don't change a thing for next year ISSCA Nats in Indy!

I'm looking forward on going to INDY next year. The July scheduled time is OK by me. I'm glad that the ISSCA BOD was able to give so much advanced notace. It's note an easy task that they have, coordinating the timing and location of these events.

Y'know, if I have a couple of cars with me a 'Cannonball Run' from Indy to E-Town could be kinda fun...

The date is fine with me... as said above, that's one less day of vacation time I'll have to use. It's also close enough that I hope to bring more than one car.
G
Won't be there....first one that I will miss :( .

Extended Family time takes priority

Posting for Gary Cardarelli:

All,

You need a solid week to do a Nationals properly. Having a weekend on either end for travel makes it accessable to a large area of the country. When we went to Tulsa it was a solid 2 day drive each way.

You want some slack in the schedule to unwind and do whatever you like in the area or just hang out and shoot the $hit with the other attendees. That and some events like the Road Race take an entire day all by themselves.

It's a Nationals, schedule a week's vacation. I know that July 4 has some standing family traditions but just missing one shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I've done two Nationals and they were both well worth it.

Karl - pls feel free to copy to ISSCA.

I'd guess that for every 1 person who likes (and attends) the mid-week events, there are 2 who don't, but would if it was a weekend event.

That's just my "young kid, uneducated" guess, though.
G
Wait a few years until you get old and educated, then you'll see the wisdom of the mid week event. And you'll agree with each and every word out of my mouf.

Karl
I disagree
Now leaving free weekends, allows the wife to impement the "honey-do" list :D

The date is fine, sure some might not be able to make it, but many others will. With the event in the midwest, it suits everyone best. There was an "ok" turnout I thought for the nats this year, BUT, then again I've only been to one...

Besides Karl, I will DEFINITELY take you up on the Kart track, Hopefully, being Indy they will have some wicked fast supercarts with the 2 stroke snowmobile engines in em
I miss Malibu Gran prix, which was in Mt Laurel, NJ not too far from here...they closed up, and we used to have some pretty hot battles goin up there!

I know they have an indoor track with 6 or 8hp carts that you cannot run full throttle very often due to too much power.

And you can spend all day there racing until your arms fall off....or the next morning you'll wish they fell off.
So it's a deal, I'll get a team full of old fat wise guys and we'll destroy the lap times of the young and dumb team.
Let's see, I get to pick my team...Les Brown team capt. Bob Fandetti, Gary Foreman, Mike Preszler, ...all the road racing guys I can think of right now.

Team OldFatWise
vs
Team YoungAndDumb

Keith, you wanna head up the team of young'ins?

Question - Would these people attend a weekend event that has double the entry fee of a weekday event? One of the BIG issues is that track rental fees for weekends are substantially more than for a weekday. Just FYI, it cost almost $8000 to rent Pocono on a Thursday. You can do the math.

If people are willing to pay a premium for a premium (weekend) day, then yes this is a viable option. That also could be accomplished if attendance doubled for a weekend event.

Just another perspective...
