Are you getting any trouble codes? Bad PCMs don't seem to be a common problem with these cars. Certain trouble codes can put the PCM into limp mode. I'd try to look for codes and post up if you find anything. FYI - Codes can be pulled on your HVAC climate control. :)

If you do buy another PCM, the average price for an OBD 1 for a LT1 usually runs $55 to $75 shipped here.

get it scanned and give us the codes we can follow up on them and see if it is for sure the PCM or not. And Goldy is right, although PCM's do go bad, not a common failure point in our cars, grounds are a big one and check all the fuses.

Thanks guys!

Getting a code 84 through the climate control--3-2 control solenoid. I had the dealership replace the solenoid when they did a trans flush, but they said the problem was actually internal on the PCM. They also said their scans can "go deeper and be more informative" than reading codes through the climate control.

Once rolling, if I clear the codes, the car runs fine. If I come to a stop, code 84 will be set again after a second or two.

So yeah, I'm totally going by their word on the PCM thing. Taking it to this dealer was a friend of a friend type of deal, so I'm inclined to think they weren't totally dishonest, but you never know. Now that you've mentioned the rarity of PCM problems, I'll see about getting a second opinion on the PCM itself.

***EDIT*** started a new thread in the proper forum:
