My Caprice throws codes for EGR and o2 sensor.

My Lt1 B4u Caprice has check engine light on. I was told the code was for an 02 sensor and EGR . The symptom its giving is noticeable on the highway when I am doing 55 or so, and accelerate, it kind of hesitates a bit and then picks up.
Is that a symptom of either o2 sensor or EGR being faulty ??

Also would like to know if its normal on take off, to not spin tires ?? The car feels like it has good amount of power, but if does not peel out on take off. Is that normal or should it be peeling out ??

Your input is greatly appreciated ..

Would also like to say, it does not always have the hesitation, just sometimes.

It sounds more like the EGR sticking open than the 02 sensor but if you are getting the codes on them go ahead and change both. They are both super easy to do and not too expensive. The EGR is a bit more than I would like but the o2 sensors aren't bad at all.

As for pealing out...I believe most do if you floor it from a start but there area a lot of factors that go into that so its hard to say with your situation specifically.

With B4U 2.93 gears and decent tires, you are not going to do a lot of laying rubber. Then again, "Spinnin' ain't winnin'"

It could be a number of items. The solenoid for the EGR may be sticking, or there could be a vacuum leak. The O2 sensor is telling you something is wrong, and the code tells you what it is experiencing. A lean mixture could be the EGR sticking, or the solenoid is not working properly. It could be a few other things. Clear the codes, and see if they come back, and in what order.

Thanks for the input and help and true, spinning ain't winning but sure is fun.. I am going to replace the egr cus the car is almost 20 years old and I'm.sure it could use it.
Does it .make a difference what brand egr I put in there or are they all basically the same?

I was also told by a mechanic that I should change the opti spark, and the wires and cap and rotor. That tune up is so expensive though. It would be awesome if someone with experience on these cars specifically could check out the car. I have seen 3 mechanics since i got the car and I have not let any of them work on the car, all uninterested theives in my opinion. Is there an opti spark for under 270$ out there thats any good, same gies with cap and rotor. Any place i can get these parts without having to shell out so much $$??

I am in the Miami area, if anyone knows somebody who can work on these cars let me know thanks.....

Do not change the opti. Find a different mechanic. It's working, leave it alone. When you need a "tune" do the plugs, use Delco single plats, and wires. How many miles on the car? €Be sure your Opti vent harness works. The vacuum line should hold a piece of paper.
Don't believe what a lot of people both here and "mechanics" tell you regarding the opti. I have 371,000 on the original opti with an MSD cap and rotor set.
Getting a real PCM tune would do good from one of the vendors. I like PCMperformance.com. You will get better performance from the engine and trans and increased trans longevity with crisper shifts.
Good luck.

Im not planning on doing the opti spark at the moment, with parts and labor it would run me $650 with cap and rotor and wires. I already did the ACDelco platinum plugs and will order the EGR on amazon today, thats only going to cost me around $50.

Does the water pump need to come out to just change the cap and rotor ?? Is that something I can tackle with not much experience ??

I have also read on this forum mixed reviews about MSD parts these days. Should I pick up a Delphi, ACDelco, or MSD cap & rotor ??

Along with this initial tune im doing here, Im thinking about buying one of the Ebay cold air intakes for about $40, is there an adapter that needs to be purchased along with that ??

Again, all your powers, experience, expertise, advice, input is greatly appreciated..
