Should I buy

95 caprice with the 5.7Lt1 with 200,000miles on it will it be worth the money ???? Do these motors last after 200k miles have been put on them

Only you can answer that. You have provided us minimal details/zero pictures and 1 major detail like....what did you pay. How's the body, interior, suspension, exhaust, Trans, leaks, etc, etc, etc.??? This s a 20 yo car so expect it will need work, if not serious work.

To me engines are nothing to replace, are plentiful and not too expensive if used. 200k miles is a lot but many here with more than that on well maintained engines. Sounds like the engine is an important concern of yours, no matter how you slice it......200k is a LOT. No idea how this engine was maintained to reach 200 but there are basic tests you can do to help determine basic engine condition.

I have 374,000 on mine and it's still doing daily driver duty. The engine itself is probably the least likely part to give you trouble at 200,000. Many LT-1's did 400,000+ in police/taxi/civilian duties. As stated, maintenance is everything. The most likely areas of failure at 200,000 are 1)the transmission 2) Ball joints. 3. Waterpump. Opti-cap and rotor 3) cooling system issues, fans, radiator. I would want proof of a trans rebuild and have the suspension thoroughly checked for worn components and ball joints. Those would be my main concerns. The cooling system stuff, waterpump, cap and rotor are relatively cheap compared to the first 2.

Lots of the ORIGINAL owners of Impalas SS, Caprices, Roadmasters, and/or Fleetwoods on this forum have engines with over 250,000 miles, because they didn't use the cheapest motor oil and wait for the oil change light to tell them it was time - they used Mobil1 or German Castrol Syntec and changed it way more often than spec.

If the oil was changed every 5k miles / 3x year or more often, used a 'somewhat' synthetic 5w30 or 0w30 motor oil (some are more synthetic than others), and nothing bad ever happened to the engine (you need some kind of documented proof), I'd worry at 250K, but no less.

But the answers we can give you cannot possibly be as important as the answers the seller can or cannot provide.

The owner is a much more important variable than the engine or the car.

Due diligence, caveat emptor, etc

Hypothetically, if you could've bought fbi9C1's car at 200k miles, for example, you'd've been very lucky, because he's taken exceedingly good care of it.

Worry less about the mileage than about the nut BEHIND the wheel.

Any car is capable of lasting that long under circumstances. Any brand of car can die long before that. . Any car will make 500,000 miles if you repair and or replace enough parts.
. It may still run (after various repairs over the years), but the seats will be worn out compacted and uncomfortable. The car will be dirty. The electronics safety equipment, computer controls and ther components will be way out of date. LIttle things will be broken or will break or wear. . Lables are worn off buttons, fabric shows wear, carpet is worn, the drive train makes some unusual, but not bothersome noises, the windows go up and down slowly, wipers move slowly and delay slightly before moving. Lots of little things. It is just worn. Even if it makes it to 200,000 I am not sure many people would want it.
. Ddiesel pick ups will last./ Most of them seem to last more than 300,000 miles. .
My first car was an old Honda with over 200,000 miles that seemed like it would just keep going and going (I never did anything to it other than change oil and tires
