Heater core

I've flushed my heater core and replaced the thermostat a few months ago. The heat is going out again. Just curious if any one has replaced a heater core before? I looked online but I can't find a good description on how to take it out. 94 Caprice

Just do a Search "heater Core Replace" and you will find threads and maybe the Stickies at the top of the coolant section will have info. I believe the Chilton Manual ($20 at most stores) also has this documented. Pretty straight forward project really with one "Bugger" of a screw to get to near the FW thats in a tough spot to reach. Removal of the Passenger Seat was a big help for me and only took a few minutes and well worth the extra space you get to work.

Once you get the Plastic cover off, you will notice a seal of some sort in the Channel that seals it to the bottom of the box. I just used RTV in the Channel and it appears the factory did this as well. Let it set up for a good while and then install.

When you flushed the core did you flush the whole cooling system? Unfortunately any gunk in the system will wind up in the core and multiple flushes may be needed. I wouldn't replace the core unless it is leaking, it is not a fun job.
