Shop times plugs & wires

I have a 1994 Caprice Wagon w/ 5.7 LT1 that I have owned for 6 years now. A few weeks ago I started getting a miss at Idle, 51mph, and 61mph. I had the engine checked for codes but only a Ox code was found. The engine is running very rich from the smell. On checking the driver side plug wires they looked like they had teeth marks on them, I live out in the sticks. The prior owner had a complete tune-up done just before the sale. I know that a lot of cleaning needs to be done to get it back into shape. When the engine has no miss it runs very strong and has a very easy start up.
I use this car to carry my electric rider on the back as just can't walk or work on cars any more. I'm going to look to someone to this work. I wanted to start by replacing the plug wires with ACdelco and install ACdelco single platm plugs. Then see if anything changes as far as the miss. If it settles down then cleaning all of the other tune-up parts would be next. I was thinking the next thing would be to replace the water pump and open up the Opit I unit. I would hope I could just replace the cap and rotor with the MSD vented kit. I know this is the long way a round but I just don't want to give up on the wagon. I ran a Traffic Division for St. Louis County PD in St. Louis, Mo. for 30 years so long a ago and had one of the police package Caprice wagons assigned to me for some time. Getting back into this car is like getting back into my office that takes me back to some very good times. Dam was it fast and I loved it.
Two questions: 1. What do you think?
2. I have been told all kinds of shop hours for labor.
To start- What would be a fair time for install plugs
and at the same time with the wires?
I have always gotten help on this forum in the past finding parts I needed and thank you all for your help.

Going from memory, I think book time to replace plugs and wires might be about 3 hours or more. Probably about 5 hours if digging into the opti.
Stick with ac-delco.

Sounds about right for plugs n wires. 2 1/2 hours by yourself is 'good time'. You're gonna get a few opinions on plugs, I prefer NGK. But the AC'S will work just fine.

The water pump falls off and jumps back on. One hour max if you've had too much beer.

Thanks for the help. I hope the Opit is OK at this point and it is just a wire and plug problem. I know they need to be replaced so basic diagnostic testing can be started and other things looked at. If the plugs are miss firing then that would load up the exhaust system which I guess would make the O2 sensor place a code in the computer. That is the only code in the computer at this time so I take that as the Opit guts are working. It is just the plugs are not firing because of the wires being eaten on. When I get the wires and plugs installed I will have all the codes cleared then see what shows up after that and hope the miss finds another home.
All I know about these LT1 engines is what I have been reading here at the forum and the books I have found. What I'm relying on is my years of building and racing small, big block Chevy and Olds engines starting in 1964. I ran a few 365HP/327's that were fast but they idled ruff and they need high test fuel. They just did not like to be hooked up to a auto trans. That is what makes these LT1's such a joy for me to drive when they are running correctly. All this because someone changed the direction to the coolant flow in the engine. Both of those engines have almost the same compression ratios but are worlds a part. If the LT1 had been around in 1965 my 1957 Chevy 2-DR HT would have been easier to drive on the street.
