So I hit a deer at 60mph in my one owner LT1 95 caprice with 78k on it.

Didn't know it was the first day of hunting season was on my way to the uni for class. shop down the block gave the paper with parts he needed to fix and it comes in at 2360. Adjuster looked at it on Monday.

Adjuster called today saying he wants the body guy to come look at with the hood off to see if there's any damage under the hood. It busted the lenses on one side where the battery is. No leaks battery is fine and the airbag did not deploy. No lights came on in the car dash. The battery is fine. Car even had a 140 amp alternator and towing package. Was a none smoker as the astray was plastic. It even has the police tires and a spare. Funny thing is no lights are busted. Just loose on that one side. The signal works

OUCH!

I guess you can at least be thankful the deer didn't come through your windshield.

Years ago I lived in the forest in Oregon and hit a deer on a motorcycle... I only broke the headlight and drove home slow with a flash of light every 2 seconds from my turn signal.

Of course I wasn't going 60MPH. If I had been, you probably wouldn't be reading my reply to your post.

Hope it works out OK for you. I can't remember, but you MIGHT have a lower deductible, can't hurt to ask.

Just curious, what town in PA do you live in? I lived in Kutztown, and also Blandon.

I live in bangor. There was a guy in 2 door 90s jeep Cherokee behind me he saw the whole thing. I'm pretty sure If I din't take the hit it would of went through his window. about 2 minutes after I hit the deer 5 cars come blazing past tailgating one another. The guy in the Jeep was the only one to stop. I probably saved his life by taking the hit. and possibly preventing a car wreck fest as everyone on that road can't drive 55. I've gotten passed while going 65 and it's a no passing zone.

Ouch....Glad you are OK and cant believe your Air Bags did not deploy. The AB impact sensor is located right there on the Hood Latch Support. I was in a very similar Deer incident in my Caprice back in 2009.

This thread peaked my interest cause I have had a LOT of bad luck lately when it comes to those Furry F'ers. We are pretty much down to one running car (even that had a Deer incident recently) now but just got the Caprice back together last night enough that I can drive it with a busted hood and fender that it got in an accident back in August this year with a Truck. Had to get it on the road even though I have no money for the parts I need to fix it yet....but she runs fine.

So, this may make you feel a little better and how my (bad) luck goes. As I mentioned, crashed the Caprice in august. I still had my hoopty ('92 Buick Regal - White car in the background of 1st pic that was taken back in '09 of the Caprice crash) and the wife had her 2004 Grand Prix. Sold the hoopty 'bout 6 months ago cause I picked up another Hoopty in much better shape....'03 Malibu with 48K. About 3 weeks ago coming into work at 6:15, dark as hell and BAM, hit a Deer in the Malibu on the Driver Front Fender. Didn't see it til it was already about to get hit. The car was in zero fender benders before but now the Fender is Toast and it got pushed into the door which now has minor damage but is drivable.

Just last week, we had to total the 04 grand Prix. The wife swerved to avoid....can you Guess?, another deer, lost control of the car and tore it up so bad it was Totaled. She is okay though. To top it all off, the tow comapny took it to their place (instead of my house) and I had to pay $200 (for the Recovery/tow) to get our personal items and then just said our "goodbyes" to the GP which we had for almost 10 years.

Anyway, back to your accident and maybe my Bad Luck helps you feel a little better about things. As I mentioned, had a similar issue back in 2009 and driving into work one morning in my Caprice and hit a deer. I was going about 45-50 MPH and with it being dark had no warning and things just happen so fast. It was running from my left to my Right and caused about the same damage as what you got. Another second or 2 slower and I would have been fine. My impact looks about the same as yours except both AB's deployed (what a mess) Which also tore up the Dash Pad and Busted the Windshield on the Pass side. Here are some pics....

Above....You can see the Imprint of the Deer's Body on the hood and it's Head whipped around and Dented the Pass Side fender.

The last pic is of the Radiator Support and you may be able to see it in the pic, but the rad support was pushed back from the Impact and had to be replaced. Not having Full Coverage on the car, I picked up a Front Clip (Black), new Air Bags and a dash Pad and did the repairs myself.

I would say your car is also fixable but depending on who does the work, how much it costs and what the insurance will cover has yet to be figured out. This was mine after I got her all repaired and the Color match from the other car was pretty good and required no touch up at all....so you do have some options other than Paint and Body work.

I would almost bet you the the Rad support on your car is also toast. My hope would be that the INS. does not Total the car or you could be out of luck unless you do the repairs yourself. hopefully things work out and you can get it back on the road cause I doubt it's anything major other than bolt on parts that can be swapped out. Again, sorry this happened and good Luck with getting her back on the Road.

Yeah the rad support is done Body shop came up with 2300 grand and the funny thing is the hood luach fell off at home. I don't have the codes for the theftlock but I have those dealer manuals 3 of them for B bodies. My question is the radio never blinks red so is it off? Anyway They'd have to be nuts not to fix it for that price. Considering the mileage.

Too bad the deer hit your car.

You may have a bent condenser as well. If the fenders are not bent, it will not be that hard to fix. All the stuff is bolt on. Get the cost as high as you can without totaling the car, and fix it yourself. If you haven't done any body panel replacement, let me know, I can walk you through it the easy way.

The little square box in the middle of the picture is the airbag sensor.

can you crop it for us as my dad is gonna try and get the hood open.

if the radio isnt flashing does that mean the theft lock is off? Guy kept the owners manual but i got 3 of those dealer service books with the car for all B bodies

I do not know how the theft lock works. I would assume that it is functioning properly, because the car still starts and runs without a fault light.

The sensor may not be important, because the used core support may come with another one. They are not programmed to the car, so they are universal. I would replace it with one that has not been in an accident, just in case it is damaged internally.

Your FSM set should have all of the information you need to do anything to the car. The owners manual only gives you enough information to drive and care for the basic maintenance to keep the car running.

My dad stopped by the body shop and the guy told him he's running late and should be in in 40 mins. He called and left a messge. No response could they just be busy as he saw some new wrecks there? Why would they make a estimate then do this.

it's off on the radio so im good for disconnecting the battery to avoid the airbag.when poping the hood. They say ten seconds but i think a few mintes to be safe. I've seen capacitors hold in a charge for awhile. I didn't know I have heated mirrors but it said if you have electronic mirrors they're heated. All I got to drive is a 98 grand marquis with 132k it has over heated 4 times due to the issues water pump fan the manifold went on the same road i hit the deer on and had to drive it in neutral down some steep hills with it off until about a mile from home where i waited 40 mins for it to cool down and then I made it home just as it hit H. Now the fan is broke again and you need to turn the ac on to force it to run always. Headlights are dim as hell due to plastic being brown. when i hold the switch to run both beams if i don't switch the lights will go out in the car. Me and my dad both wish i took that car that day. Oh and the exhast is loud even when it warms up.

I wish he would get on fixing my 99 regal gs with 252k so it passes inspection. Car runs amazing.

Hope you get it fixed. Good trick to get the fan running on the Merc.
