Question l99 vs LT1 ?'s

i have a white 9c1 with the lt1 and i have a blue classic with the 4.3 ! both motors look alike ! visualy is there a way to tell the two apart besides vin numbers or the badges on the radiator support ? or power ? when i bought the blue classic the guy tryed telling me it had the LT1 swapp done by the previuos owner , i said there was no way cause compared to my 9c1 the blue classic was slow and sluggish ! now today , i go get my oil changed and the guy in the shop argues with me that its the

lt1 and again i told him there was no way based off of power differences ! so now im wondering is my blue classic a 4.3 or a detuned 5.7 ? is there a way to find out and how ?

As you said they look identical and they also share a lot of parts with each other. The only other way I know by looking at the engine is on the Block.

Right behind the Driver Side Cylinder head and toward the firewall, there are numbers embossed on the block. Near the top where the bellhousing attaches you will either see a "5.7" for the LT1 or a "4300" for the L99 or 4.3 Litre engine.

Correct. IIRC, the L99 is 588.

Above answers are your surest bet. Engine casting marks don't lie. People do. The above portion of your quote reads to me and what the guy's probably actually thinking:

"I'm putting this squarely on the other guy, who I don't know, so you can't blame me later, but trust me, it has the LT1 swap done...or at least they replaced the 'Y' pipe w/ a dual exhaust at any rate."

Hopefully I'm wrong and the casting is 327. I've just learned (sadly/unfortunately) over the years to expect the opposite.
