Key won't unlock/lock drivers door.

I just bought a 9c1 caprice and the guy who sold it to me gave me 15 keys. Two different keys turn on the car and one is able to unlock the passenger door and open the trunk, But my issue is that the drivers door will not unlock with any key he gave me. PLease help!!! The only thing that didn't seem right is the alignment of the lock on the door. Why is it not unlocking?

Does the key turn in the driver's door lock? If so, and the lock is at an angle, it is not aligned correctly. If so, I do not know if the lock is damaged, or the door is. The only way to find out is to remove the interior, and inspect the area for damage. You can remove the lock, and check for wear to the tumbler, or door panel. There is a keyway for the tumbler to fit into the door. If the door or the tumbler are worn or damaged you have to fix it to get the lock to work. Pics when you have it apart would help.

There is a spring slide that holds the tumbler in the door from the inside. It is easy to remove.

If the lock and door are not damaged (I suspect some damage), the lock rod may be unhooked.

If the tumbler is damaged, and you want to have a keyed alike lockset, You can get one from a junked car, and replace yours.

Thanks for the help. The key does not turn at all. Saying that the lock is damaged, could I replace it with a passenger side door lock? Would it still function in a drivers side door? I got a passenger door from my first caprice so thats why I ask?

Also I don't know much about 9c1s but the guy I bought it from gave me 17 keys, There are 4 different patterns from all these keys. Two different patterns turn the ignition. Some keys Have "U50" stamped on them Others have a chip on them, Literally like some one Chipped the side creating an arc or Triangular shape. I'll try to get a picture later. I just thought this was unusual and might help me get some kind of information as of why the keys are like this.

The passenger's side lock has a different lever arm on it, but I think you can swap it with the driver's side. If not you need a driver's side lock. If you want it keyed alike, you may be able to have a locksmith rekey a driver's side lock for you. It is probably cheaper to buy a complete lock set from a junkyard car than to have the lock rekeyed. The lock set from a 91-93 RMS or 91-96 Caprice/Impala would replace the doors, trunk and glovebox. The glovebox cylinder can be swapped from one latch to the other.

The ignition key, having 2 keys that fit, is unusual You could get a different lock cylinder from a 94-96 for it as long as you have the same resistance in the chip. A locksmith could make a key with the right chip if you take the original chip with you.

On a 9c1, one key does all. No chips in the keys. Different keys are usually signs of wreck rebuilds and/or theft recovery cars. As stated, a locksmith should be able to get the setup back to normal.

Thanks again Fred and Fbi9c1. I'll just try to replace the lock whenever I get the time. And what I meant with the "chip" is that someone purposely chipped away at some keys.
