1993 Caprice transmission problems

I have a 1993 Caprice that is having transmission issues...I can put it in reverse or drive just fine but when I accelerate it doesn't shift into second gear unless I gun it hard and then it shifts really hard into 2nd..If I manually try to shift it doesn't have any effect...any ideas??

Did you try resetting your TV cable, just to be sure?

Check your linkage to make sure it is not sloppy, or loose.

Resetting your TV cable is done by pressing the reset on the cable end at the cable bracket on the top of the engine, and pushing the shroud end adjuster back into the end of the shroud end. Then rotating the throttle plate arm to full throttle to cause the adjuster to ratchet out to the proper position. The instructions are on page 7A-13 and figure 8 on page 7A-14 of your FSM.
