1994 Caprice 9C1 Question

So I picked up a very interesting 9C1, never seen one like this. It was owned by the Washington Department of Corrections. It had full exterior trim, cloth rear sear, full carpet, 5.7, 9C1 RPO, etc.. etc.... but never was a patrol car or did it ever haul prisoners. Was told it was a command car, whatever that is. Best I can tell, it was driven to and from work by a captain or lieutenant. It has no spotlight and no holes anywhere. Either the dash or roof or trunk. I do not think it even had a radio in it. It is dirty, has been sitting for a spell. It is fully optioned as far as power options. Split 60/40 power seat. Hubcaps but has the 9C1 wheels under them. Any ideas how rare this is? It has 126k orginal miles.

It's nice but not especially unusual. It would be nice if you would load photos that aren't tiny so we could see the SPID sticker. The power seat is unusual. Do you have posi, cruise control, the 6H6 trunk release button instead of the big yellow one? I presime you meant you didn't think it had a police radio. Does it have the cassette Am/FM Delco radio. Carpet, cloth rear seat, no antenna holes, the 6 slot hubcaps are all pretty common detective car stuff. It's the oddball small options that make one unusual. I love the color of yours.
Someone on one of the other boards has a '94 that has both the LS package and the 9c1 option. That is really rare.
One thing that mine had that is less common was the 225 tires with the LT-1. 235's were standard but some agencies specified the 225's for cars they did not expect to be doing really high speed pursuits. Check your dorr sticker for the tire specs.

looks like my old one same but mine was a 95 with trim like yours 9c1 wheels under hub caps cruise control. and a posi dectective but with all the options and mine that that trunk relase by the radio i say its rare i looked every where and i never see detective 9c1s ever with all the options mine had or your no hole ethier

straight black pvc kn filter
spintech pro street mufflers
most of trim and grill painted black
150k running strong and going

More pics/info

Here is the link for the public surplus auction where I bought it from. We have snow and ice so not getting pics of mine own for a spell. It has the posi, 3.08 rear end. Does have the trunk release under the headlight switch, does have the 225 tires, no extra dome light by the rear view mirror. Has cruise, power door locks, AC, floor mats with snaps for the front like my Impala SS's had. AM/FM but no cassette player. Does have all 3 external coolers, oil tranny and power steering. Does have the 9C1 wheels behind the hubcaps. Here is the link from the auction site with better pics for now.

Yours looks just like a friend's car that he bought that had been an FBI car here in Phx....very nice color combination and had been parked inside so the interior was not sun rotted...I think it only had 60K miles on it when he bought it a couple years ago......sounds like the same option list except I don't think his had power seats...His dad was driving it and it was t-boned and totaled but his dad walked away from it...
He bought a lot of these cars at auction and the prison cars and FBI cars were very nice and Utah HP cars are well taken care of....
I got a lot of parts from it when he sold me my DGGM detective car...no holes or spots, grey cloth, PW,PL, AC, Cruise and posi....108k from Utah...

Seems like a fair bit of money considering what other Caprices are bringing (judging by the linke), but the rarity and interesting features of the car make it a nice find! Will you be keeping it stock? I would, but that's me .

A "command car" would be a car driven around by a high-ranking officer, like you suggested; it'd kind of be the police equivalent of a fire chief's car. It likely didn't see much aggressive field duty.

And here I was thinking that he got a great deal. I have had my car for 11 years now so its been a while since I have shopped for a caprice. Have they really gotten that inexpensive? I know the beat up ones have but I thought the nice ones were still going for more.

Mine is in "nice shape" not excellent but not beat to death and my friend paid $2800 for it with 108k miles...sold it to me for the same price and I have been chasing a rough running issue only when warm so have not drove it much and am going to sell it...

So ya they are pretty cheap when you find them even when they are not all carved up...

He has been burnt on a couple Crown Vics so he is out of the police car game...unless he finds 9C1s but they are very rare to find at auction...

Was a prison car

The car I started this thread with was from a prison in Monroe WA. Was not used as a prisoner transport or anything like that. Was part of the prison staff command motor pool. My best guess it was a "company car" given to a individual on the command staff. I found a receipt in the car from the local Harley Davidson shop with a name on it. I will call the prison and try to talk to the guy that I believe was the driver.

Since I do not know of any prison command staff (not that I have any experience in this area) :-) I am assuming that this car was never used for anything but driving around by some prison staff individual and except for perimeter patrol cars, at prisons, I see no evidence that this even had a 2 way radio in it. It is completely unmolested in anyway, except the guy was a slob and coffee spills everywhere, yea the cup holders suck!
