I just bought a 1987 9C1 Caprice (complete with dual spotlights!) to play with along side my '96 DGGM. (Were they 9C1's in '87?) Its' life thus far has been spent as a campus police vehicle at a community college and is in pretty good shape. I had to put a new A/C compressor on and redo the drivers bucket, but so far I'm only out $2K. I've alway wanted an ex-cop car for some reason. Well, what to do next? I don't want to change the appearance of the vehicle and I don't want to spend any major $$$, (that's what the '96 is for!), maybe headers and exhaust?

sounds great. My dad recently piced up an 87 w/ 58K on the speedo. Clean. Well you may want to visit the 9C1 board to find out what those guys are doing to the "Boxy" caprices.

My roomate has a verry rusty 89 9C1, it had 80K on the odo when he got if from an auction for $750.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. What a deal. he drove it to new york with out a problem. He now has the SEE-THROUGH floor mod but the car rocks.

First you gotta get a siren, then you need to get one of those police lights you put in your window, then you need to find a town that still has old cop cars, then you need to start pulling people over. hahah, jk.

Great - I have a 1989.

I think you should have a 350ci carb engine?
Mine is a LO5 (350 TBI).

The y-pipe from the 92-93 9C1 is larger than in 89, so is a cheap upgrade. Not sure if its a bolt-on for your car, but it works for 89. the exhaust on these cars is pretty bad, so anything to open it up is good.

Another site to check is third-gen.org - f-body site, sicne the cars share a lot of driveline parts, there is good reference.

As for suspension, a lot of it is the same as the newish (94-96?) Impala SS. So springs, shocks, etc work for the most part. I plan to do the PST bushings, already have new shocks, keeping the 89 9C1 springs (I think they are the stiffest, or very close to stiffest, from GM). Some of the F-body front swaybars bolt up - do a search to find the years. Also, the SS 17x8 alloy wheels fit and aren't too expensive if you want shiny rims.

i jus had a 1990 caprice. i loved it, i had it hooked up real nice, 2k a/v and sound system, but it get stolen on new years eve, which is the reason i got my new 93 caprice. but i loved the car, had 200k miles on it, and ran good for sumthin of that high milage.

My dad had a 1990 Caprice 9C1. Yes, they made the Caprice 9C1 in 87. 87 was the first year for the one piece headlights, and the last year for the carburated 350.
