Tranny for all '91's is the 700R4. What kind of code are they looking for?

The 4L60E was not used on the B-Body line until the LT1 and L99 were introduced in '94. I don't think the 4L60E was even in production in 1991. That should solve your problem right there.

You are no help

Either way for the others,

The VSS code that they are looking for depends on the RPO number..DN8,DNF or DNE.There's at least 3 kinds of VSS for 91-93

Ah, OK, now I'm awake and I understand. I looked at a GM RPO list and the different VSS RPO's are either D8_ (where _ = a letter A through N) or D9_ (where _ = a letter A through E). That should be listed on the SPID label on the trunk lid. Makes sense that there would be 3 of them, as you'd need a different one for each axle ratio (Duh!).

The vss should be the same no matter of ratio.. Its the reluctor that changes with the ratio. Weird that they have so many!

Actually on second thought the reluctor should be the same too. The program changes the speedo output not the vss input. are the 3 vss's different sizes or something?

The 4L60 is a 700R4. The 4L60e is electronically controlled for all gears. The 4L60/700R4 has an electronic overdrive. It will shift without the computer but won't go into overdrive.

For the 3 different numbers, get the GM number and go to gmpartsdirect and see what their price is. Or take the number to the parts store and have them cross it over to who ever makes their parts. (They will have to look in a book to do this.) If the parts book have pictures you can look at those too.

I had a replaced a 94 with a 96 roadmaster transmission and the tailshafts were different. The 94 sensor was cracked/leaking. The 94 sensor was huge compared to the 96. I cut off the pigtail and used a pigtail for a temp sensor.

I hope this information is helpful.
