Question

We all know the Impala was first built in 1958. When was the Caprice first made?

It was 1966. It was the high end luxury option on an Impala.

Imagine that! In the beginning, the Caprice was on option on an Impala! And in the 90's, it was the Impala that was the option. I almost bought a 66 Impala when I was 15 years old. It was red, and needed the drivers side replaced. I almost cried when I realized I couldnt have it.

Whale has the year right, and Pat has the details of the option right!

Sorry Pat, it was--as I recall--a late '65 addition, debuted at the Chicago Auto Show, I'm pretty sure.

I was a 14 year old kid at the time, rode the Illinois Central up from Cairo Illinois just to go to the show--always in Feb every year.

For you Chicago guys--what year did McCormick Place burn?

Here is a Caprice time line link:
Caprice History
Here is a link to a picture of a 1965 Caprice.

1965 Caprice

In '65 it was available only as a 4-door. In '66 it became available as a 2-door.

Those springs are Suspension Techniques. I paid $170 for them at JC Whitney. I live about 20 miles from the distribution center which was nice so I just drove over, ordered at the counter and they sent a clown in back to round them up. No shipping!!!! I like them, but havent driven the car since install. With the SS wheels and tires, she should drop some more. Those are stock 9c1 rollers in the picture. Thanks for the compliments too, always appreciated!!
