I'm looking at a 1992 Chevy Caprice (perfect body, nice paint, I don't know miles yet but I will find out, $1450) and I wanted to know what sort of stuff can be interchanged between years (i.e. put Impala shocks on it). I see a lot of upgrades for the 1994-1996 Impala SS/Caprice, but I don't see many things for 1991-1993. I want to be able to make a car that will run with the best of them, but my wallet prohibits me getting a newer Caprice. So what sort of things will interchange? What about the exterior? What's the same and what's not?

Also, I know that this has a 305 TBI engine (from the VIN) and I am wondering what sort of hop-ups I might be able to get for it too.

Thanks for letting me tap into your knowledge, and sorry about all the questions.

Thanks again, Judson

any chassis, suspension, or rear-end parts for impalas will fit that caprice. the b-body has used basically the same undercarriage since 1977...
you'll find some info here for your engine if you search. you might be better off looking for another forum ( a camaro site like www.thirdgen.org maybe ) for more thorough engine info, though.

as for the impala shocks, there are better and cheaper shocks out there than the stock decarbons. as i said above, though, anything that fits the ss will fit your caprice.
good luck.

First off, your in NH, you should join BADASS

Our newengland based club! My signature pic was taken at bills' (toomanytoyz) house at one of our "gatherings" in NH!!

Go over to Yahoo under groups and find BADASS of NE..were actually planning on having a Post-Thanksgiving gathering at my house, perfect time to meet everybody!

On to the exterior: basicly everything but your rear fenders (skirts).

Everything else is the same or interchangeable with 94-96 impalas/caprices.

theres a few guys in our club with Non-lt1 cars, they can show you some engine tricks..

Sounds like you'll be in good company. I would suggest for fifeteen bucks you can get a Haynes 91-96 Caprice repair manual at your local auto parts store. The book has lots of procedure photos, and shows the differeces between 'late models' & 'early model'. Good toilet reading...

Also, if you are gonna pay cash for a bunch of mods... consider passing on that car, and make your first mod by starting with an LT1 car. IMHO You won't find more bang for your bucks. Especially compared with a 305. "Look twice ~ pay once."

Good luck with your new Caprice!
