1. what was the horse power rating?
2. Any common problem I should know about?

1986 was first year for the Caprice nameplate; previously called Impala since the major re-design in 1977. 350 engine was carbed and had 155 HP, 700R4 trans and 3.08 gears.

Huh? The Caprice nameplate dates back to at least 1966. Originally it was offered as an upscale version to the mass market impala.

If you will note, I said previously called Impala since the major re-design in 1977. From 1977 to 1985, the Chevrolet b-body was called the Impala. From 1986 - 1996, it was called the Caprice. (The obvious exception from 94-96 being the Impala SS.)

In the 1960's and '70's, various styles and models were made, such as the Impala, Caprice, and Biscayne.

Hope I clarified my previous post.

Dave , Maybe I am missing what you are trying to say. Are you saying that there were no Caprice 9C1's between 77-85 or are you saying there were no Caprice tagged "B" bodies at all between 77 and 85.
If so you are dead wrong. My 78 Caprice wagon that I owned would attest to that.
If I am miss reading you I am sorry and please explain.
Regards, Gerry

Gerry, I was referring to the '9C1' b-body only, not the wagon.

hey im not sure if that's correct information because i used to have an 84 caprice and a friend of mine has an 83 caprice. both of them are 9c1 or police packages. not sure if they used 9c1 as the title for police package in those years but i know for a fact that caprices go back till at least 83.

Alrighty then, I will quote from Ed Sanow's book, Chevrolet Police Cars - 1955-1996, Chapter 32 page 146:

1986: First Caprice Police car

"The news for 1986 was the name of the full-size Chevrolet police car, Caprice. The Impala nameplate introduced on 1958 retail cars, was the basis for the police package for 10 years from 1976 through 1985. In turn, the Caprice would be the basis of the police package in the 11-year span from 1986 through 1996. The name Caprice first appeared on 1965 top-of-the-line retail cars."

Take it FWIW guys.
