Ok heres the deal. This will be my first caprice purchase and i need info from you guys as to if im getting a good deal or not. please respond with your thoughts. If i do get it i will probably end up taking the impala logos off. Pics and specs are below:

Here is the vehicle description takin right from the add:

1992 Chevy Caprice/Impala SS clone. I purchased this car in January from an elderly couple in New York who traveled extensively. It has 145,000 highway miles and starts, runs, and drives like new. I've added Impala SS badges, grill, and emblems. Brand new american racing rims and tires worth over $1000.00. Custom exhaust worth over $300.00. Brand new battery and CD player. This car is sound mechanically and the interior looks like new. This is a 9 year old car and does have some minor scratches, and knicks but only visible up close. This is a very well taken care of car and only a new child and house force me to sell. This car was never a cop car.It does have dual exhaust, low quiet rumble, sounds tough but not obnoxtious. It is the 5.0 305 v8 engine.I just put a new Clarion CD player and Diehard battery in. I also have the original rims and tires it came with (smaller dumb tires and black rims but good for winter or emergency) which you can definitely have. I have felt no slipping in the tranny, it shifts perfectly on time.
I ordered the impala ss grill, emblems and scripts from The impala superstore web site for about 185. I also purchased the rear window appliques that make it look like a 94-96 from a dealership for 60. I have also thrown in brand new floor mats (It didnt necessarily need them but they look better), and a lot of time ( I painted all of the chrome trim black to make it look like an ss instaed of grandpas car). I have only had the car since January but have driven it here and there to keep the fluids good.

He is asking $4000 for it and is pretty firm. Now can you please reply with your thought to if i'm getting a good deal or getting ripped off. (i have seen the car in real life but havent drove it yet, it is very nice) -Lee

I would say that it was a good deal, depending on the condition, and service records..My old one was a 91' 305 v8, with 148k on it and budnik rims slammened with eibach springs, flowmaster exhaust, jacobs electronics ignition,k&n filter, power everything!!!!!!, and i got $4800 for it with no questions...guy came buy to look at it and handed me a $500 deposit and got the rest next day...If it is truely clean, and all service records are there, it is a good deal!!!The 305 engine is really slow though!!!

I am confused a little... are you looking at purchasing one or you have one for sale that you have already converted into the Impala look. My 2cents here... pre 1994 Caprices do not have an LT1 option (or at least GM says so). You should be able to get such car for a lot less then $5000 given the mileage, year and trim level of said car. You might be better off spending the money on a 9C1 with less miles and with an LT1 to boot. Check out Prestige Auto in Indianapolis, they had several CLEAN looking (no holes) Marion County cars between 80 and 100k miles going for anything between $5,000 and $6,000. As for getting the accessories to make it into a clone you are better off dealing with Dal and Troy for pricing and availability since GM is beginning to run out of spare parts and those two guys carry a lot of these parts in stock.

I would personally opt to purchase a newer Caprice myself specially given the same price range. Good luck...
