if you get CEL (check engine light) you need to read what the code is

well I would say your burning oil you may wanna do a compression leak down test but imma say you got blow by meaning your piston rings are shot. anyone correct me if thats wrong or it can happen if you valves are no longer sitting properly I know because my engine blew up back in 2003

black - rich

Many things can cause that.I would check the sensors like the coolant temp sensor and O2 sensors.A dying ignition system can cause that too

My boxy caprice is running kinda weird lately. The heater fan makes loud roaring noises whenever we turn the heat on, the engine is making a weird noise that I can't pinpoint, and the radio died out of nowhere. The radio's probably just a loose wire or a fuse, the roaring sound may be that the fan motor is going, but the noise in the engine is concerning. There is no smoke, no leaks, no performance drops of any sort. Just a strange kind of low tune ticking sound near the front of the engine.

Hopefully it'll go away with my next oil change *it hasn't been changed in a while since my garage has 2 cars in it already*

try the old trick and get yourself a long hose and point to different parts of motor and listen
you may perhaps want to disconnect the fan for a moment to see if it's anything in there

and I got a story too
the first night I moved some liked my the full size hubcaps - PO3 I think is the RPO
the ones that says CAPRICE on them

and one more time AFTER I spent 300 and passed emissions they stole the car, got her back 7 months later
