How common is it to find a non-police/non-fleet Caprice with an LT1?

I've found a 1996 marblehead gray car with 129k mi, power everything, leather, no dings, good paint (identical orange peel all the way around), and it appears to have been garage kept. In all honesty, I like the seats better than the ones that are in my Imp. It's on a dealer's lot and I'm waiting to hear back from the previous owner to see if he knows of any problems with the car.

The dealer said he's willing to take $4,700 for it.

Any opinions on pricing? Thanks.

Kris

Civilian Caprice's with LT1's are fairly common. The $4700 price for a 96 in good condition with that mileage is probably about right, if not a little low. Get the VIN number and see if VIN_GUY can run the GM history on it for you. That will list all the options originally ordered on it, as well as the service history (work done by a Chevy dealer).

Pretty common. Pricing: I know of 2 100,000 mile LT1 Caprices (B4U package, all power and leather) that have recently sold for $4000, pretty good buys for both. What you should pay should be determined by the car and its condition, your needs/wants, and the prices in your area.

I've been looking for an LT1-powered Caprice for about 6 months...and this was the first one I'd run across that hadn't been a police cruiser. The car's in great condition cosmetically. In all honesty, the paint and driver's seat is in better condition on this car than on my Imp.

In this area, rwd V8's sell at a premium. Cars similar to this one, but with the 4.3L motor, have been selling for around $7,000 locally...as I said, this is the first non-9C1 LT1 that I've found, so I really don't have anything else to base my estimate on.

I'm just looking for a dependable beater to drive back and forth to work, to the mall, and places like that. I figure that as much as I like my Imp, I'd be almost as happy with a Caprice.

I posted a thread in the Miscellaneous section earlier today paging VIN Guy. Thanks for the heads up on that though. I'm hoping he'll reply soon.

Civilian LT1 caprices are so hard to find in NY/LI! There were 2 for sale this summer and they were sold in under 24 hours from being on the lot

Both of them were at dealers also.

Yeah I guess thats what my parents have. A 1996 LT1 power everything, Leather seat Caprice in DCM with only about 23K on it. My father would never part from his cars though , he just had our 1987 Caprice brougham repainted and it has the 305 V8 to. Both are DCM cars and we love them. But those prices you guys mention sound pretty good for these cars and if i seent hat i would have tried to buy one to for that price but couldn't find any at the time.

I was told by the chevy dealer that about 1 in 15 civi's came w/ lt1. Kind of a moot number, but does anyone know for sure?

When it rains, it pours. I couldn't find what I wanted for six months. I found the gray car yesterday...and found a listing for black 95 today--with fewer miles, similar options, and with a lower asking price. How's that for luck? I'm going to go look at it either today or tomorrow. Wish me luck
