Drove a new Mustang...

Right now I have a 1979 Cadillac Deville, which is quite closely related to the Impala SS, and I 2003 Ford Focus ZX3 with the SVT suspension kit on it. I love both cars.

But then I started wondering if I'd do better with one car, and whether or not I really want to spend so much time tinkering with cars all the time. Maybe it's time to get something new, and let all that go.

I'm weird. I like Cadillacs more than Lincolns, but I like Fords more than Chevys. Doesn't make sense, I know. But it partly why I've always been more interested in Mustangs than Camaros.

So I went and drove an Ecoboost manual with the Sport Package, and man was it fun. I don't really want to spend the extra $7k for the 5.0, and the Ecoboost is already significantly faster than any car I've ever owned, so I think it would do just fine.

The dilemma is, it still costs $28k in the configuration I would want, and how long will it be before I get bored and start tinkering around with it anyway?

I have enough cash to buy it outright, and I can't help but think that I could spend less cash than that on the Cadillac, and make it pretty awesome. Could even swap in that E-Rod LS3.

My concern is, I'd have to do the suspension first to see if I could get it to a place where I was happy with it, and I don't know if I want to blow $5k or so on suspension parts, only to find I still like the Mustang more.

I'm interested in hearing perspectives from other people who bought new cars, with the idea of letting their car hobby go, as well as from people who have driven Impalas with highly tuned suspensions compared to much newer great handling cars. Also, I never race these things, I just commute to work, and sometimes enjoy a tight canyon road, and I like a car that handles really nice.

I bought my first brand new car last week with the intention of leaving it alone, I've been researching CAI's and exhaust all week, so if you're inclined to tinker you're going to want to tinker, maybe just to a lesser extent but the urge doesn't go away. I'd say both of the options you're weighing are too different to say you'd like one more than the other but that's also subjective. Personally I wouldn't pick either for a daily driver, if the Caddy is a project I'd keep it that way, and maybe consider replacing the Focus with the Mustang if you're used to something smaller and don't have to worry about snow but personally when I had a rental Camaro for a week it was fun but I was ready to give it back and drive something with more space.

I'd rather have a used Mustang V8 than a brand new Mustang with a 6 for about the same price. It isn't JUST about speed. A V6, no matter how fast, just does not feel like a V8.

the "ecobost" is a 2.3 liter turbo powered 4 cyl engine. Makes good power for a 4 cyl......each to their own but not for me in a mustang

I drive a 4 cyl car daily and it does well getting me to where I have to go and fair gas milage
My 96 SS 383 is a complete "grin" factor to drive over my daily

It really all boils down to what works for yourself....for me a Mustang is just to small but like a Camaro if it had a bad ass v8....I would prefer that. Just my $02

I drove my friends 5.0 GT/CS and it's a beast. It has a few bolt on's and center force cluch

I'd buy a nice used CTS-V for that kind of cash. Have a nicer car that should hold it's value better (you're not the one paying for the first couple years of depreciation).

Ever notice how many people are ignoring what Ford has done with the Mustang because it has a Ford nametag on it, while Chevy continues to spin it's wheels with anything besides something we can't afford?

My 2 cents, you can't go wrong buying a Mustang if you enjoy the looks. Everyone I know that has one, absolutely loves it. And they're car people, not someone who bought a Mustang to have a Mustang and all the lure that used to go with them.

And laugh all you want about a 4 cylinder Mustang. Fact is they still run easy 12s with a tune. They're not for me, but I no longer look down on people for owning them. Ford is doing everything right now. Well, that is if these ecoboost motors actually hold up....

I just bought a 2015 Charger Scat Pack. I didn't look at any Fords. Only thing I compared it to was the Chevy SS. I wanted 4 doors and fast.

Innersting. I went to our carclub meeting a week back and my wife asks what's that black car over there? I said SIDK, but it looks mighty weird for an Impala, but in a sorta nice looking way!
