Few Questions on Monroe Shocks

Hello fellow B-Body owners. I just got new wheels and tires for my 92 OCC and now am thinking about shocks. I read that the Billstien's are the forum favorite, but at 86 a pop I'd rather grab a set of 4 for less than 200. So that puts me around the Monroe's.

My car has the auto leveler- which the compressor still works to. However the shocks are (I believe) original and therefore no longer work. The car has 230k miles on it. I see the Airbags that go into the springs, but Monroe also offers the Air Shock Absorber- so I'd like some input on which direction to go. Should I just get regular shocks and later install the Air Bags? Or should I go with the Air shocks and reattach everything? Which lasts longer? Air shocks and Air bags are something that is foreign to me.

Also, are springs something that wear and need to be changed over time?

Lastly, something else I've been wondering about the Auto Leveler... I have 255/70 in the rear and 255/60's up front. The car rakes a little downward (butt up face down), so would this mean that the Auto Leveler would NEVER kick on (unless the rear is packed full of stuff)? My mind would think "no" since the butt end it up higher.

Some pretty smart guys offered suggestions on the very same issue a few years ago. I'd give exactly the same advice today. If you desire legitimate performance level shocks then get them, and let the Airlift bladders do the rest.

Search member 95 Wagon and you'll find a treat on modding your (amazingly still) functioning compressor to operate with the Airlifts.

Regarding springs, on a Cady the autoleveler was designed to bring the rear up the last 1 1/2" to keep the car at correct ht.

\'96SS SOB: SSRI, Herter Tune, Tri-Y II, , 3000 Edge, F/HO bars, METCO extendeds with CV MMC, Bilsteins, currently Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta (315/35 rear). Finally, wait for it... LT-4 knock module!
\'96FWB BUW-Butt Ugly White: PCMPerformance tune, HDFA w/ swissed filter, 1/2 SLP s.s. catback with H- and Flow Super 50s, oem opti rebuilt 3 times, SS Bars, METCO LCA, Airlift 1000, Monroe SS, PowerTrax No-Slip, CTS wheels with +1 rubber. Finally, yes again... LT-4 knock module!

Right on. Thanks so much. Well that settles that then. As far as the types of shocks people use... Has anyone tried the Monroe's with the spring in them? (4932-05070299) or the "load adjusting shock" listed on the OP's link? Which do you guys who have used monroe have had good success as far as firming up the ride? I saw Mr. Buicks thread, however that was posted in 05. Not too sure if these were covered back then

not on my SS

I did put them on my 70 Torino so the back end would be higher (old school raked look).

I also have them on my Ford truck for trailer towing

On just a car they are pretty stiff. Even in the truck without a load in the back the ride is much stiffer than stock. the "load" part in their name means they allow you to carry more "load" in the rear.

If you want the back end of the car higher, they do that
