Eibach Spring

Installed a set of Eibach springs today along with some extended control arms for the rear. The rear is sitting nice and low but it seems like the front is about the same as with the other springs. I forgot to measure before. I read where a guy cut a 1/2 coil off his new eibachs.

Anything I may have done wrong to make the front so high?

I'm gonna say this; DO NOT cut your drop springs!!!

BTW.....it could be that your old front springs were so saggy that they dropped the front end, already.

My question is; Is you front end even with or lower than the rear? If your answer is "Yes", then I suggest you leave it alone!

The back is 26" to the fender lip and the front is 29".

It installed on my 1996 Impala. This is the Impala SS pro kit not the Caprice kit. The only thing I didn't do yet was trim the bump stops. But I don't think that would make a difference until I drive it.

Improper indexing of front spring into their register in the control arm can easily result in an elevated ride height. One tip I've heard is installing a trim screw in the hole,and rotating the spring toward it while it can be moved. Then removing the screw (from underneath) when done. Try running an ice-pick (or,something similar) through the small holes in the spring pocket. Bottom coil should not be blocking them.

Also, one of the upper indexing 'fingers' could have been bent over during an install. The spring no longer fully seats in the upper pocket. At 29 inches, it wouldn't be on the bump stops.

I will check the index of them tomorrow.


I just bought this car. I think that the previous owner may have had large wheels on it. Because it was already higher than stock in the front. Could it be possible that the spindles are different?

One of the finger was bent on one side and the other side was not in the top cup correct. Got them indexed and its still about 2 inches too high. I'm at 28" now in the front and 26 in the back. Will it settle some? Would adding the extended control arms make the back lower than normal?

After driving it around for a day I had about 27-1/2 in the front and 25-1/2 to 26 in the rear. It just does not look right. I put the stock back springs on the rear today and I am at 28 in the back now.


The car looked kinda stupid to me being lower in the back that the front. Now its a little higher in the back but its not bad. I'd like to go back to the Eibachs in the rear. But only if I get the front to go lower. As much as I hate it, I may have to cut a 1/2 coil off the fronts like another member did in another thread. Idk what else to do.

Hard to imaging what alterations folks may do in order to install "big" rims. A careful inspection of an unaltered car to try to figure out what may,or may not have been done. My front wheel opening (w/Eibachs,and 275/40-17 tires) is exactly 26" tall for comparison...
