Extrememly sloppy steering (4 inches of play)

Ok its gettin harder to keep the imp going straight with how sloppy the steering has become. When sitting still with car on, i got about 4 inches of play before the wheels move. I purchased one of those jeep steering shafts a looooooong time ago and its sitting in my garage collecting rust. What else do i need to do get the steering back to being solid? Anything i could do at home to tighten it up? DO i need more parts?

The rag joint has a good chance of being your biggest problem. So when you instal the jeep shaft you'll take care of that. There are other parts that could also need attention, but you won't know until you change out the shaft.

I recently swapped in a spare stock shaft to replace a crapped out one.
Even that was a noticeable improvement.
I couldn't get my hands on a jeep shaft on short notice.

It will reveal any other issues, and you'll need an alignment for sure.
Just get 'er done, it's a pretty easy job.
